Bilston based publishers tenebrous Texts are preparing to publish a new book by local author and poet Brendan Hawthorne called "Synapse."

Brendan Hawthorne performed at the 2024 Wolverhampton Literature Festival earlier in the year with poetry and spoken word.  He performed at Wolverhampton Art Gallery at an event called "Becoming The Art Of Words".

His book launch will take place on Saturday November 2nd 2024, 11am - 12.30pm  at Wednesbury Library, Walsall Street, Wednesbury

Brendan Hawthorne is an award winning poet, writer and musician from the Black Country in the heart of England.

In his latest publication Hawthorne works in collaboration with artist Jason Fullwood and publisher Steven C. Davis at Tenebrous Texts.

Hawthorne and Fullwood have worked together before exhibiting and producing mutually inspired art from poetry in the shape of Human Menagerie.

Synapse however, takes shape with a sequence of short stories. At first seeming tenuously linked but what a web they weave. Fullwood’s artwork is not only illustrative but conveys subliminal sub plots at regular intervals.

Hawthorne playfully suggests that the stories work on multiple levels allowing the reader to decode the nuances that are laid before them through the dream like landscapes he conjures up in the minds of readers.

Presented in poetic prose the book tells of the final confessions of a man seeking clarity, retribution and ultimately paying his debt to his own Karma.

Is Sid (the main protagonist in the book) bragging about his dealings in life or simply cleansing his earthbound soul before his next incarnation? That dear reader is for you to determine.

Fullwood says of his involvement with the publication,

‘I felt that we had something special from the very beginning.

To take Brendan’s powerful words and titles and translate them into visual representations was a fantastic insight into his work. This is my second time of working with Brendan on a project of this magnitude. I am proud of our collaborations and look forward to working with him again in the future.’

Steven C. Davis says,

‘Tenebrous Texts was set up for just this sort of noir-exploration of an idea, and the combined use of a character as unreliable narrator and a top-class illustrator bring whole extra dimensions to the project. It’s been a fantastic experience watching Brendan hone and sharpen the words and ideas and Jason’s art compliments the text to such a degree that the question of which came first becomes irrelevant.

Here’s to many more such collaborations!’

The launch will present readings from the book, projections of artwork and a question and answer session will follow as well as your opportunity to buy the book!

Can’t wait!
