City of Wolverhampton Council is providing extra support to businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic by waiving the fee for adjustments made to its commercial properties.
Many businesses have had to make changes to the layout of premises to ensure their trading environment is Covid compliant.
Alterations to the council’s commercial properties normally incur a landlord’s consent fee of between £350 and £500 depending on the work carried out.
For a period of three months, starting from Saturday, October 31, 2020, this fee will not be charged, subject to a review that the changes are made to accommodate safety requirements as a result of Covid-19 and/or to enhance trading capabilities.
The fee will also be waived for any works done dating back to Monday, March 23, 2020, subject to review.
Councillor Jacqueline Sweetman, Cabinet Member for City Assets and Housing, said: “As part of our Relighting the City strategy we are committed to helping businesses through this challenging time.
“This is just one way we can help the tenants who occupy our commercial properties across the city.
“The council has provided extensive support to help businesses reopen safely across the city during the pandemic and I would urge the council’s commercial tenants to engage with our estates team promptly to benefit from this support.”
The council would like tenants to come forward and highlight what changes are being made to ensure they are documented appropriately.
Through further engagement, there may be other support options which the council can offer.
