A talented artist has scooped £150 after winning a competition to brighten up office space.

The Open College Network West Midlands has recently redecorated its offices and training rooms, and while they look clean and smart, they were sorely lacking artwork on the walls.

It held an Art for the Office competition and invited students on creative courses with all its partner organisations, including Adult Education Wolverhampton, to submit entries.

The winning entry came from Bernadette Brady. Her watercolour abstract of Adult Education Wolverhampton’s art group shows their feelings and their imagination of colour surrounding them as they paint on canvas.

Bernadette, who is 63, said: “Adult Education Wolverhampton has enabled my fellow students and I to have use of an art studio, and my creative learning development and practical experience have not only encouraged my self-confidence and belief that I have the potential and aspiration to become a full-time artist, but also led me to enter the Art for the Office competition.”

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Bernadette has demonstrated that the talents of our Adult Education Wolverhampton students know no bounds, and I warmly congratulate her on winning this competition for her excellent piece of abstract art.”
