The Punjabi Women’s Writing Group was set up in 2018 by Simon Fletcher, Komlaish Achall and Kuli Kohli. Kuli now runs the group which is dedicated to all women of South Asian heritage in Wolverhampton and the Black Country. They meet on the last Wednesday of the month (5:15 - 6:45pm) at various locations and online zoom.  These women have been suppressed by society, culture and family. Their stories are untold.

Offa’s Press has delivered free writing workshops for the group and given continuous support including (ACE-funded) one-to-one mentoring to help group members develop and improve their writing and performance skills. Offa’s Press has provided an invaluable source of information, help and encouragement for these women to achieve their goals.

Over the last four years the group have had successful writing workshops and performances in Wolverhampton and Ironbridge that have sparked up a lot of interest. Group members have been involved in various local projects, such as ‘Community Champions’ to raise awareness for the ‘Covid 19’ vaccination programme and taken on commissions such as ‘The Boundary Way’ project.

Currently, four members of the Punjabi Women’s Writing Group have been commissioned to work in partnership with Creative Black Country on the Offsite 9 British Art Show. The project is called ‘Hum Saath Saath Hein’ (We Are Together).  The work they produce will be showcased and performed in a special launch which will be part of the Wolverhampton Lit Fest 2022, so watch this space!

Recently three members have been asked to take part in a residency at the Wolverhampton Art Gallery, starting in 2022.
