Jazz at NAC returns to the city this weekend with the Tori Freestone Trio. The artists’ sax paying has been creating quite the stir in the UK and abroad in recent years, winning prestigious awards and receiving rave reviews, now it's your chance to see the highly acclaimed trio live in action in Wolverhampton.

On Friday 8th November you are invited to witness Jazz Times top 10 UK artist’s choice, Tori Freestone with much in demand long-time colleagues Tim Giles (drums) and Dave Manington (bass). The unmissable Trio has an incredible rapport and interaction that gives audiences a buzz and sense of excitement in a live setting, touring Europe extensively playing Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria including some of the most prestigious European festivals.

Comprised of uber-creative drummer Tim Giles and highly original bassist Dave Manington, the trio has been developing Tori’s repertoire which explores the openness that the saxophone trio allows while taking inspiration from some of the non-chordal sax led trios of the moment. This group dynamic has culminated into a program of music that has been developed over a number of years and, excitedly, was recorded for Freestone’s first appearance as a leader on Whirlwind Recordings on 'In the Chophouse' which attracted wide critical acclaim.

2019 has seen this trio back in action with an exciting new release on Whirlwind Recordings. Showcasing her unique writing style which takes inspiration from the chordless trios of the moment infused with sounds from her roots in folk.

“Freestone has clearly listened widely, but her musicality and broad experiences have stirred all that input into an imposingly original sound.”  - The Guardian

"A flute and reeds player of nicely sinuous melodic invention.” - The Telegraph

“Tori Freestone has a warm and open tone, her playing is melodic and innovative…exploring the full range of the saxophone.” - All About Jazz

“Well worth watching out for.” - Jazzwise Magazine
