Two City of Wolverhampton councillors have been shortlisted for this year's Local Government Information Unit (LGIU) Councillor Awards which recognise the outstanding contribution of councillors across England and Wales.
City of Wolverhampton Council leader, Councillor Ian Brookfield, is shortlisted alongside four other nominees in the Leader of the Year category and Councillor Chris Burden, Cabinet member for education. has been shortlisted for Young Councillor of the Year.
Councillor Stephen Simkins said: “The Councillor Awards are the only national ceremony to celebrate the vital contributions of councillors. being shortlisted is an exceptional achievement for both Councillor Brookfield and Councillor Burden. I’m pleased that their hard work is being recognised.
“It's fitting recognition of Councillor Brookfield's excellent work since becoming leader and encountering some extremely difficult times, as well as for our youngest ever cabinet member, Councillor Burden’s first-rate diligence in working towards providing a better future for our young people.
“Our hard work and diligence as a council is being acknowledged and, whatever happens at the awards ceremony in October, we shall look forward with immense pride at being a part of it.”
