Its hard not to be worried recently about the way Covid-19 is effecting so many people in so many ways. As a freelance Performer and Stage Manager, myself and most of my peers find ourselves in a position where we will likely lose ALL of our income due to cancelled gigs and performances during the next few months. I figured it was better to do something pragmatic and to help others in similar situations rather than join the panic!!
So I’ve set up the Emergency Fund for Freelance Performers, aiming raise £10,000 to cover hardship costs of other freelancers working in the Arts who have been affected by job cancellations, insurance with no coverage, no sick pay, etc. So many artists, performers and freelancers are the most vulnerable and underpaid with little protection.
I’m gladdened to say that people have started to donate but the more we raise, the more we can share with others in this time of uncertainty. I am eternally grateful for every ounce of generosity. So please continue to give so I can keep this growing.
I’d like to see this spread as far as possible for as long as needed so please do donate and spread the word if you are able.. Sending love to everyone in this time of upheaval & chaos - stay safe, wash your hands, look out for and support each other.
