Wolverhampton Photographic Society has recently announced the winners of the Wolverhampton Young Photographer 2020 Competition.
This new virtual exhibition showcases and celebrates all winning entries and finalists in the competition’s three senior categories: ‘Creative’, ‘My Lockdown’ and ‘Patterns’, and two junior categories: ‘Creative’ and ‘Landscape and Nature’.
This year, competition winners were revealed in a special online awards ceremony. The winners are Rhianna Jones, who won the title of Senior Wolverhampton Young Photographer 2020, and Mya Ghera, who was awarded the title of Junior Wolverhampton Young Photographer 2020. Other winners include Isaac Philips, who received the Senior Creative prize, and Ahmed Imran, who took first place in the Junior Landscape and Nature prize. Wolverhampton Grammar School are the winners of the School and College Trophy.
The 2020 competition was judged by Tim Thursfield (Group Chief Photographer, Midland News Association), Carol Thompson (Senior Curator, Wolverhampton Arts and Culture) and Bob Moore Hon.FRPS, Hon.PAGB, MPAGB, FIPF, FBIPP (International photographer and judge for 50 years).
City of Wolverhampton Council Director of Regeneration, Richard Lawrence, said: “This is a great opportunity for the young people in Wolverhampton and their skills as photographers be showcased. There has been an excellent standard of photographs that are inspiring and beautiful to look at.
“I commend everyone who got involved and a special congratulations to the winners of this competition.”
Carol Bailey, Chair of Wolverhampton Photographic Society, said: “Despite the obvious restrictions that Covid has meant for students and teachers, we still had almost 120 entries. There has been an incredible level of high-quality images from the young people of Wolverhampton, and all those who entered should be very proud of themselves.”
