City of Wolverhampton’s Shopmobility service will reopen to customers on Tuesday, 7 September.
Located in the City Centre Market, the service will initially be open on market days - Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, from 10am to 2pm, with plans to offer longer opening hours and additional days in the near future.
Shopmobility provides manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters to customers who have limited mobility, whether it be temporary or long term.
Customers do not have to be registered disabled, have a Blue Badge or be in receipt of disability benefits to use the service.
The equipment available includes a variety of four and three-wheeled scooters, power chairs and an assortment of manual wheelchairs. In addition, a holiday loan service is also on offer, with manual wheelchairs available to be loaned for a period of up to three weeks to any resident on request.
Covid-secure measures have been introduced, including all equipment being sanitised thoroughly before and after use, social distancing within the shop, hand sanitiser will be available and people are welcome to wear face coverings when collecting their wheelchair, power chair or scooter.
Councillor Steve Evans, City of Wolverhampton Council’s cabinet member for city environment and climate change, said: "I am really pleased that we can reopen our valued Shopmobility service.
“As the lockdown measures have eased, it's important that everyone is able to access the city centre safely and securely once again.
“We would also like to reassure anyone using the service that a number of measures have been put in place to achieve a Covid-secure environment and the team are very much looking forward to welcoming them back."
Shopmobility is based in the City Centre Market located on the walkway between Cleveland Street and Temple Street.
Customers are asked to call 01902 556021 in advance of their visit so that the team can ensure their chosen equipment is ready for them on their arrival.
