Wolverhampton’s Youth Folk Sampler Day by the National Youth Folk
Ensemble is coming to Newhampton Arts Centre on Saturday 25th of May.
This FREE event is open to young confident musicians aged between 14 to
18 on September 1st 2019 and offers the perfect chance to explore English
folk music and learn more about the genre from inspiring tutors.
The National Youth Folk Ensemble brings together talented young folk
musicians from across England to create and perform inspiring new versions
of traditional music.
Meet up and play with other young musicians in the Wolverhampton Area as
a series of music workshops from top folk musicians and experienced
educators unfold across the day. There will also be an optional short audition
to apply for the Youth Folk Ensemble and a Q&A with the Ensemble staff,
which is your chance to ask any questions:

The Sample Day is completely free, giving all young people the chance to
participate and further their musical skills, players of any instruments are
welcome with no previous experience of folk required. All playing and learning
will be done by ear.

This event is promoted by the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
Newhampton Arts Centre runs a Folk Music programme called Folk at the
NAC, still to play this season is, Dan Walsh Trio 11/05, Dan Whitehouse & Boo
Hewerdine 21/09, Faustus – 19/10 and Lady Maisery 22/11.
New for 2019, Folk at the NAC as also introduced music workshops by artists
in the programme. Master your bango playing with a Clawhammer bangoworkshop delivered by Dan Walsh or take part in exciting new song writing
workshop by Dan Whitehouse and Boo Hewerdine. Please note that
workshops are on the same day as the artist’s show, with workshops starting
at 3pm and finishing at 5pm, leaving time to enjoy dinner at NAC’s onsite
café, Jesters.
Spaces for these workshops are strictly limited and will be sold on a first come
first served basis, more information along with prices, dinner reservations and
combination workshop and concert tickets can be purchased here:
