Among the many providers delivering holiday events is Wolverhampton Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) teaching a mix of martial arts with some self-defence and fitness work at Cockshutts Lane, Parkfields, Wolverhampton.

Councillor Jacqui Coogan, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “I was delighted to visit Wolverhampton BJJ and see how much the children were learning and enjoying themselves.

“It’s great to get out and see for myself some of our local providers, volunteers and organisations which are working so hard with us to continue to build a huge range of opportunities for our city’s children and young people through Yo! Wolves.”

Hugh Abercrombie from Wolverhampton BJJ added: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Coogan and show her our offer this summer to children and young people in Wolverhampton.

“We are very pleased to be part of the Yo! Wolves programme providing a safe environment for children and young people to learn new skills, get fit and socialise during the long summer holidays.”

The Wolverhampton BJJ programme is one element of Yo! Wolves Summer, offering hundreds of activities available across the city to children and young people with a Holiday Activities Fund (HAF) code, co-funded by the Department for Education, along with a comprehensive selection of free and paid for activities open to everyone.

They include sports, arts and crafts, dance and drama workshops, fun days out and free activities on offer at WV Active. There is also a range of activities that are SEND inclusive for children and young people with SEND.

Councillor Coogan added: “We know how difficult school holidays can be for many families at the best of times and we hope our Yo! Wolves programme is giving parents a little extra support this summer.”
