Father's Day is a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.
Father's Day was actually founded as long ago as 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, born in Arkansas but it wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers.
He designated the third Sunday in June as Father's Day and six years later, the day was made a permanent national holiday when President Richard Nixon signed it into law in 1972.
So Fathers' Day has really been a long time coming and honouring all those lovely Dads out there and celebrating fatherhood is a great way to show appreciation and acknowledge the often challenging and rewarding role as a parent.
If you are thinking of getting your Father or husband (from the children!) a present and you are wracking your brains for something to give him, how about a new hairdo and a lovely head massage - Kinsellas Hair and Beauty in Woodbridge are doing a special Fathers' Day offer: -
