An Evening with Craig Douglas and The Bachelors (July 19, 7.30pm) Worthing Pavilion Theatre
60s stars unite with Joe Meek singer to perform spontaneous night of hits.
Con and Dec’s The Bachelors feature in an evening of hits led by fellow 60s star Craig Douglas at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing on July 19.
Craig, who is known as one of the original creators of high-school pop, is on stage for the duration of show and introduces each guest while chatting with the audience to create a homely, spontaneous evening.
Between telling stories from throughout his career, Craig will sing his famous covers of American hits such as A Teenager in Love and his version of Only Sixteen which was more successful than Sam Cooke’s original. He will also perform tracks from his new album The Craig Douglas Project which includes covers of songs such as Depeche Mode’s Enjoy the Silence, Radiohead’s Creep and Neil Diamond’s Beautiful Noise.
Craig’s band The Craig Douglas Project features in the show along with guest Pat Reader whose career was championed by controversial Ivor Novello winning producer and songwriter Joe Meek, who was responsible for hits such as The Tornados’ Telstar.
Craig also invites Con and Dec’s The Bachelors to join him on stage. As part of their original line-up, The Bachelors, the group out-sold The Beatles in 1964 and 1965. Having split from their fellow band-member John Stokes in 1984, Con and Dec Cluskey continued the band alone, performing their hits such as Charmaine, I Believe, Ramona and Diane.
The 2008 release of The Bachelors’ greatest hits, I Believe – The Very Best of the Bachelors, included two new songs by Con and Dec and reached number seven in the UK album charts. The Bachelors in both their incarnations have achieved 18 chart hits, worldwide sales in excess of 22 million and have released more than 75 albums.
