With their brand new production of Dracula at the Connaught this week, Blackeyed Theatre Company promises you a “show you can sink your teeth into.”
“Let all your preconceptions go,” says the play’s director Eliot Guiralarocca. “This is a modern version of Bram Stoker’s famous tale, and it’s extremely faithful to the original – unlike the big budget movies everyone knows. It’s all happening live, before your very eyes, so there’s no pre-recorded sound. The five actor-musicians are doing it all. We’re creating an atmosphere of fear and trepidation that will have you on the edge of your seat.”
Eliot is keen to use a wide range of theatrical forms which were popular at the time the book was written, so you’ll see tributes to early silent films, shadow play and the eroticism of the Victorian tableaux vivants.
“The story of Dracula releases some dangerous emotions,” he says. “Our production is very actor-led, so we’ll be drawing the audience into the play in a very real way.”
Catch it if you dare!
