The magical experience of seeing Sleeping Beauty performed live as a ballet will be provided by the Russian State Ballet and Opera House when the company visits Worthing Pavilion Theatre for the first time on Wednesday October 10.
Tchaikovsky’s original score for Sleeping Beauty is combined with Marius Petipa’s classic choreography which remains one of the most well-known and loved combinations in ballet. It was first performed at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg in 1890 and continues to bewitch ballet–lovers with its timeless story of romance and eternal love.
The Russian State Ballet and Opera Theatre of Komi have been known for creating ballet and opera masterpieces since 1958. The company’s faithful interpretation of the classic story ensures it still showcases the style, attention to detail and technical excellence which made the ballet so popular when it was first composed and choreographed over 130 years ago.
Producer Alexej Ignatow says: “When you see the Russian State Ballet and Opera House, you can be sure of the quality of productions. We endeavour to bring different artists to the UK every year. This means that although this is our first visit to Worthing, if you have seen one of our productions of Sleeping Beauty before, this performance will contain different sets, costumes and choreography. It will feel like a different show altogether.”
Sleeping Beauty promises to impress ballet-lovers by showcasing the world-renowned skill of the Russian State Ballet and Opera House’s forty-five dancers, while entertaining adult and child story-lovers alike with its vibrant portrayal of the classic fairytale.
