Last weekend, Team Atlantic Splash took part in the Worthing International Birdman Contest. The concept is really simple: Jumping from a platform erected on Worthing Pier, the contestants must complete the longest possible distance before landing in the sea 35 feet lower.
Well, let's make this clear, we were always going for style rather than distance, and our crafts landed quite a way off the 141 meter managed by the multiple-winner and event record-man Ron Freeman. We managed to land beyond the 5-metre mark, however, which isn't too bad by our own standards!
First to jump on Saturday were Tom and Neal (who jumped twice as Terry was unable to attend for professional reasons). Neal went for the jump as "Mini-Missy", a seven-foot replica of our boat Mission Atlantic, while Tom opted for the Flying Fish look (picture). You can see their crafts and watch their jump at the end of this report on ITV Meridian Tonight or on the Official Birdman Video by 3:30".
