Worthing Business women Melanie Peters, Owner of Best Of Worthing, and Chelsea Harman, co-founder of Babybuddy are lacing up their boots in readiness for a Challenge of a lifetime trek across parts of the Great Wall of China, in aid of two Sussex Charities Love Your Hospital and BabyBuddy.
“You have not lived if you have not been to the Great Wall”, or so the Chinese saying goes, and it’s not surprising why! The Great Wall of China has been voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Stretching for 6,000km, it zig zags its way across China, snaking across mountains and through valleys.
The pair leave on the 24th April 2014 and return to the UK on the 4th May. Arriving in Beijing their trip will include trekking the remote and stunning Gubeikou section of the Great Wall. The next part of their journey will take them from Jinshanling to Simatia and then onto the challenge of conquering the 1,000 steps that make up the Heavenly Ladder. They will finally reach the Badaling section of the Wall, to then finish by transferring to Juyongguan to complete their adventure.
Most days of their trip will include 7 – 8 hours of trekking in remote areas far away from the tourist trails, and the girls know that they have a huge task ahead of them but are focussed in achieving the very best for their chosen charities.
Love your Hospitals is a local charity fundraising for Worthing, Southlands and St Richard's hospitals. The charity needs to raise over £3 million each year to support these three community hospitals, and enable their staff to deliver the highest quality of healthcare to local residents.
Babybuddy is a children’s charity supporting Worthing and the surrounding areas. Its purpose is to support families and carers with children 0 – 14 years old living with learning disabilities offering support and regular meeting places.
