One of the oldest businesses in York is set to close with the potential loss of around 100 jobs.
Sessions of York announced this week it has gone into administration, with Directors attributing its failure to the worldwide recession and the subsequent devasting effect it had on sales.
The business was also badly hit by the fall in value of the pound against the Euro, which had forced paper prices up by more than 30%, an increase they were unable to pass onto their customers.
The business, which has history in York dating as far back as 1811, has become a figurehead for business within the area since it was bought by William Sessions in 1865.
Operating for almost 200 years within the York area and even boasting its own replica shop and printer in York's Castle Museum, the announcement of its closure has resulted in commiserations from business leaders across both York and the UK as a whole.
