York Against Cancer (YAC) is a charity situated within the glorious city itself; striving endlessly to raise money for the war against cancer. The funds are concentrated towards facilities that are not externally funded by other organisations.
The charity itself, operating from a laboratory within the University of York conducts tests in an alternative methodological way. YAC tackle tumours head on and research from the source, whereas most focus their primary observations on regular human cells. The philosophy behind this is to find the route cause so we that we are able to locate a solution.
A large part of YAC’s work is to educate the younger generations on the significance of cancer. Through an array of mediums (DVD and pamphlets included), they are able to convey the dangers of cancer and provide means of prevention; healthy eating and generous applications of sunscreen being prime examples.
The organisation has conjured up a collection of superb events which all strive to further the cause. One example is “We Will Rock You”, an event that occurred at the Grand Opera House back in may. Many local, talented bands played on the night in an effort to raise money for the cause. As well as this, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance put on an annual pantomime, in which all proceeds go to YAC!
We hope you can all contribute and become involved with the incredible opportunities provided by YAC! Be sure to let us know how they went also!
