The World's most famous physicist has ben spotted over the last few days on the streets of York, where he has been reliving past memories of a family trip.
Stephen has been across York's bars and attractions with family and friends and due to his world renowned status in science and Pop-Culture (having guest starred on The Simpsons and The Big Bang Theory, as well as bringing science to Tv viewers across the world) he caused quite a stir.
He visited the National Railway museum where he had come with his son years before. Jim Lowe of the NRM said: “We were delighted to welcome Professor Stephen Hawking to the museum. He was here visiting with his son, Tim, who he had brought to the museum some years ago as a small child. They were here for around three and a half hours and in that time had a good look around. They said that they were inspired by Mallard and the story of the A4s and thoroughly enjoyed their visit here.”
He also visited the Yorkshire museum before going out to sample York's night life. He had drinks for nearly an hour at the Biltmore bar on Swinegate, where he posed for photos with fans and drank cocktails. The Assistant General Manager of the Biltmore said “He’s an iconic figure, an extremely clever guy, and it’s an absolute privilege that he came here.”
Stephen Hawking is an inspiration to millions due to his pioneering research in modern physics. He has helped further the understanding of the origins of the universe and how the universe itself may have been formed. Similarly he is an inspiration through his stoic determination to overcome and battle through his terrible condition. Hawking has a motor neuron disease related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a condition that has progressed over the years. He is almost entirely paralysed and communicates through a speech generating device.
We are proud to have had Stephen Hawking in York, one of the worlds finest minds and men, and we hope you enjoyed your trip.
