The Orphan's Screams. This Ghoulish tale is said to take place in Beddern. This area, off Goodramgate, was the medieval home of the Minister's Vicars Choral. However after the choir had moved out the area deteriorated into effectively a workhouse and an orphanage. The man who ran the orphanage was evil, he would barely feed the children and many of the orphans died. The man also was too lazy to bury the bodies, he would leave them in a locked room until the stench became unbearable. Over time however he began to hear sounds coming from the room. This drove him mad, until one day he ran around the house massacring the remaining children. It is still said you can hear their terrified screams in winter nights.

Buried Alive. Under the current Theatre Royal used to be St Leonards Hospital. This housed nuns across the middle ages however one nun was found with a young man breaking her vow of chastity. She was thrown into a tomb and sealed there, buried alive. It is said that she appears in the dress circle of the theatre, however she apparently brings luck to any play on at the time.

Murder and Betrayal. This story is situated in the Mister Yard of York. In the 16th century life was hard and many men were forced to a life of crime just to put food on the table. 2 brother's ambushed a priest one night, cut his throat, and took his money. The younger of the 2 racked with guilt locked himself away, the older brother was terrified his sibling might confess their actions so he informed the authorities and lied about his involvement. His brother was tried and hung. The older brother is said to have been so racked with guilt he neglected his health so much that he passed away in his room of St Williams College. It is said his spirit still paces there today.
