I visited recently overnight on business. I made my feelings clear as I checked out and I was told that the general manager would be in touch to discuss, and I said therefore I would not make public my views. He hasn't been in touch so...

I booked a taxi, through the hotel, to pick me up at the airport, driver wasn't there when I arrived, this was 8 pm and terminal was deserted. I sat outside on a bench (with luggage) watching taxi drivers chatting to each other, trying to find the confirmation email and get my phone to reboot. After a few minutes a driver wandered over to the terminal. Long story short he was my driver and hadn't seen passengers disembark the flight. Find that very hard to believe as he was facing the one and only door, but that's not the hotel's fault. It kind of sets the tone though.

I checked in, to the hotel, very smart room. Small but very well appointed and very comfortable. My only constructive criticism relates to the hallway, on exiting my room left and right looked exactly the same, nowhere in my corridor was there any sign pointing towards the left or stairs. This isn't a big deal just an observation. As I say the room was lovely. Extra firm pillow as requested, dressing gown, slippers, tea making facilities, decoration in very good order. If one was staying for a few days the room would be pretty cramped but for overnight it was excellent and the bathroom super.

Went down to dinner, 9 pm table booked. Restaurant manager showed me to the table for 1 by the kitchen door. 20 mins later I was still sitting there gazing around when she came over and said "sorry I forgot you, it's been one of those days". Perhaps but we could all say that. But the two gentlemen sitting next to me were getting super service. My starter came and went. Crab salad, sorry to say (and I was starving and really looking forward to it), completely tasteless. After sitting there 40 minutes I called over the manageress and asked if she saw a drink on my table. "No? Neither do I". "Well what do you want?" she literally barked at me. "How do I know? I haven't seen any form of wine list or been offered anything" and I do mean not even a glass of water. She said I could have a glass of wine for free, both my first two choices (the cheapest ones I add) were unavailable. The main course, the fish special pan fried with stir fried vegetables was so over cooked it had gone rubbery and basically inedible. As I was fighting the fish, and the men on the table next to me were being treated properly by their waiter, the kitchen turned off all lights. Didn't really feel like a dessert by then to be honest anyway. I was made to feel so unwelcome, so in the way and just an irritant, that I was literally in tears by the time I left the restaurant. I would add that several other tables were occupied but it was not packed out and others were still eating, I was not keeping anyone who should have long gone home.

I was still too upset the next morning to eat anything other than a piece of toast but I can say that the full English breakfast did look very nice.

After my early morning meeting the next day I sat working in the lounge area until my flight. When the Reception phone rang, one hopes it was internal calls, it was answered by someone saying "Fawlty Towers". Oh the irony.

At check in I had asked the gentleman on Reception to book me a taxi back to the airport the next day. He said he would do so. The next morning I double checked and was told it had been booked, for 3.15 pm. At 3.10 pm I was ready to go. The taxi didn't arrive. As I was telling the Manager how dreadful my experience as a lone woman business traveller had been in the restaurant over his shoulder I could see the Receptionist on the telephone frantically trying to get me a taxi, by now it was "rush hour" in Guernsey. The taxi arrived at 3.40. I only just made the flight, the taxi driver said no taxi had been booked, he had been pulled off another job to pick me up and he doubted very much whether I would make the flight.

I was then searched at airport security and my bag was searched twice. My family came to the mainland from Guernsey many generations ago, I can understand why they left and I certainly won't be going back in any sort of a hurry.

The best part of the trip - Gwyneth & Grey in the town, a lovely boutique run by two friendly and helpful ladies.

What a lovely hotel we are so glad we stayed here!. The hotel staff could not have done more, they are so polite and nothing is too much trouble. The room we had was super, a good size with a very comfortable bed and importantly for me, spotlessly clean. The food was of a high standard and we enjoyed every meal we ate here. If I had anything to say it would be the walking back up the hill to the hotel after being out all day, this can't be helped and is compenstated byt the nearby Candie Park.

We stayed here 'just because' for a night and loved it.

Food in the Leopard Bar was super, staff are lovely and there's a great atmosphere. Extensive cocktail and wine lists were much appreciated.

Room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable.

Afternoon tea in our opinion is unmatched over here - there's nothing to dislike about the Duke.

Nice enough hotel, but don't truly feel its value for money. The box room was nicely kitted out, sky sports was a bonus. That said, it was a box room. I've never swung a cat before but if the opportunity should have came about, I wouldn't have been able too. The bathroom was also ridiculously tiny, which complimented the bedroom well. Leopard bar was nice, apart from witnessing a bit of belittling by members of staff to others, I'd recommend it for a cocktail.

My friend and I had the two course lunch on the Tennerfest Menu.
Only two tables in the restaurant so service was good. Sat in the conservatory part lovely and light and it was a sunny day.

Food was excellent in presentation and value for money. Particularly loved the Cape pickled fish started followed by rabbit paperdelle pasta and Winter vegetables.

Was a good venue where you could relax and catch up.

An excellent hotel we were very well looked after. The staff are friendly and operate to the highest standards. The hotel is extremely clean and tidy.
Unfortunately during out stay we had a family bereavement and we could not get off the island due to high winds as we came over on the ferry with the car. The staff and duty managers could not help us enough and were extremely sympathetic and attended to all our needs, and acted above and beyond their call of duty. The duty manager through tremendous thought and effort managed to get us an earlier ferry so we could get back home to address the sad loss for which we were eternally greatful. We could not thank them enough.

We went as a group to this hotel for the annual Post Office Christmas Meal. The food was excellent, the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is spotless, and we all had a great time. Can't recommend this hotel enough.

Sitauted in a quiet road only five minutes walk from the main town and close to Candie Gardens and Cambridge Park, the two main green areas around. It's the best location in St Peter Port. Breakfast really good. Staff very helpful. Room luxurious. Bed great. Afternoon tea really worth trying in the large conservatory. Garreth, Helen and Hilario run a really great place with the smiling Olga and Orlando in the bar and restaurant. Reception staff helpful too. Best place to stay for location and value compared to other high end hotels of similar standard.

We stayed here for five days recently and very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel and the islands in general. This was helped by the excellent weather we had. The hotel is very unique and somewhat quirky, but we really enjoyed it. The room was very comfortable, the food excellent both at breakfast and on the couple of occasions we had lunch and an evening meal. The only minor gripe we had was that there were a couple of late functions on the Friday and Saturday nights, which were a bit noisy, but it did not spoil our stay.

Special mention must go to the staff, who could all be named as providing a courteous but unobtrusive and excellent service from reception throughout the hotel. We particularly enjoyed the chats we had with Andrew and Paul who both set us at ease and made our stay enjoyable.

We would certainly come back again and hope to do so soon.
