You know when you're full but you carry on eating anyway because the food is just wonderful, well, that's the Bass and Lobster.
I had the Bass starter which is oysters with, parmesan, anchovies, bacon salad and was huge, husband had to help me eat it, he had the tempura prawns, which he polished off happily on his own.
I had the fish, plaice and parmesan with truffle oil chips, husband had monkfish!
Yes, l was full but l couldn't resist the hazelnut brownie with thyme and raspberry sorbet. If you haven't tried raspberry and thyme sorbet, just go to the Bass and Lobster....
Wouldn't go of you're trying to diet, book ahead.

We came upon Bass & Lobster while exploring Gorey and what a find! Not too much on the menu which is always a good sign and this was proof when the food arrived. The presentation is close to fine dining, the quality was impeccable and to top it off we even had the owner assisting to serve our table. It was unexpected and we are so glad we stumbled on this gem.

The Bass & Lobster is a must visit restaurant for locals, and visitors, alike. Booking in advance is recommended. We had the set lunch on a Tuesday, and it was packed. The service by Kirstie, and her team was very attentive, informative, and clearly showed a passion for what they produce, here. Chef Thorpe Jones and his crew served up mouth-watering dishes showcasing the best of locally sourced, and seasonal produce with very well balanced and innovative flavours. The portions on our 3 course £25 lunch were generous. The path set here by the Bass and Lobster, in sourcing locally, and adhering to the seasons, appeals, greatly to my ethos of how it should be done, and also makes them a prime candidate for Michelin's new 'Green Star' award introduced last year.

We needed to eat late and almost everywhere stops serving at 2030. It was 2040 and the Bass and Lobster welcomed us with open arms. The waiter was brilliant and didnt make us feel like we were keeping everyone up! We had a sharing platter for starter which was fine, chorizo, pate, calamari, olives, tomatoes and plenty of bread. Main courses were amazing. I had grilled scallops on wild mushroom risotto which was heavenly, full of flavour. A delicious liqueur coffee for put and I was stuffed to the gills. I would definitely go back and have all the other specials. Lovely atmosphere and great food.

This Hotel is excellent. Our room was fantastic, the food was wonderful and the staff were so attentive. We felt totally spoilt. We were so impressed that we have already booked for 2016. This really is a true Boutique Hotel, the decor was outstanding, stunning even. We can honestly say that it was the best holiday ever.

My husband and I had a 3 night break in Guernsey choosing this 4 star hotel based on reviews. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was as advertised with a very comforable bed. On 1 day our room was not services by 2pm and on I evening the 'turn down' service did not happen. On both occassions my complaint was handled in a most courteous manner, including a hand written apology and fruit basket. It was my birthday while we were there and I received a beautiful cake and a card signed by all the staff. Everyone makes mistakes, that's life. At the Duke of Richmond management staff are customer focused and endeavour to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Nothing is too much trouble. I would certainly stay there again.

We stayed on a special rate of 5 nights for the price of 4. We had some difficulty finding the hotel after the drive from the airport. But were not disappointed on arrival. We were impressed with the efficiency of the reception staff, cleanliness of the rooms, and the high standard of service in the restaurant. Our room 507 was an attic room on the top floor. The bathroom was small, with a lack of storage space for toiletries. The heated towel rail was too close to the toilet, and easy to burn your arm. Slippers, robes, face flannels and Fragonard toiletries were provided. As was some fresh fruit and 2 bottles of water on arrival. We appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities in the room, items were replenished daily. We ate in the Leopard restaurant several evenings which was a pleasant experience, but the menu could be repetitive if staying for much longer. Parking was limited at the front of the hotel.Turn right out of the front door of the hotel, walk down the hill for a spectacular view of the bay. The round the island bus 91/92 service from the Town terminus is well worth the £1 fare.Visit the lower garden in Candie gardens for lovely floral bedding displays in Summer. The fish ponds could do with some attention though.

We travelled as a party of 8 to this hotel on the 16th July for a birthday celebration (with 3 extra people arriving later over the weekend.
We ourselves, had a double room which was very clean and comfortable with lots of extras, like bathrobes, slippers, bottles of water, and iron/ironing board etc.
The room was decorated very individually and overlooked the swimming pool and terraced areas.

The public rooms were decorated superbly with lots of paintings and other artwork.
The pool was warm and clean, with towels provided, and was open from 8am allowing us to have a swim before breakfast.
The breakfast was very good. As well as a full English breakfast (which was huge) ,there were kippers, poached haddock, smoked salmon/scrambled eggs, pancakes and waffles to order; in additional to the normal breakfast buffet. Our party's dietary requirements were varied (coeliac, lactose intolerant and vegetarian) but the staff were very attentive and made all of the adjustments to the orders accordingly.

The Afternoon Tea, which we had on day 2 was so filling we didn't have room for dinner. The hotel staff provided little boxes for uneaten cakes, so that we could enjoy them later.

The staff in the hotel were fantastic; very friendly and knowledgeable - you could tell they enjoyed working there. Nothing was too much trouble - setting up the breakfast table for our large party so that we could sit together; providing plates and napkins for our birthday cake; a surprise box of cakes and cards left in the bedroom for the birthday guest.

This hotel is one of the best I have stayed in - mostly because of the staff. Their commitment to provide the best for their guests is commendable.
We will be returning next year.
