Great property up the hill. Easy reaching from the downtown. Okay, more easy actually to go back, but walking up is quite exhausting for olders could be. Great restaraunts in Guernsey around. Nice room with a great sized bed and facilities. Yes, the room is small like in Paris or London, but it is okay, enjoy the panaroma views. Good breakfast but staff need to be trained a bit more for 5 deluxe.

We had an excellent three night stay at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. Why.......?

Location: yes, it is at the top of a steep hill but we liked the fact it was in a quiet location, near Candie Gardens and with panoramic views. We preferred to stay out of the main town but still have easy access to the facilities. It took us about 10 minutes to walk into St Peter Port (and a bit longer to walk back!) Take the route through Candie Gardens for a scenic stroll into town.

Accommodation. We had room 117 (Herm suite) and it was simply one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. There was plenty of space, a bath and separate shower and a huge balcony. Given the weather we had during our stay, the latter was a very welcome bonus as it was equipped with a wealth of patio furniture. The room had complementary bottles of water, biscuits, tea, coffee and chocolate; essentially all the little touches which enamour you to a hotel.

Food: breakfast was extensive and offered a wealth of cold and hot food. There was fresh fruit as well as the usual cereals, pastries, cheeses and cold meats. Coffee/tea and toast were all brought to the table, along with any cooked choices. We didn't use the hotel for lunch but had dinner there a couple of times. The food was well presented and cooked and there was adequate choice. My only minor gripe was the fact the hotel was used for hen parties and this resulted in lots of noise in the restaurant on the Saturday. I realise this is not the fault of the hotel, but consideration does need to to be given to resident guests. We celebrated our wedding anniversary the day before we arrived and the hotel had chocolates and a card delivered which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. It does, however, reflect the attention to detail which seems to be so important at the DOR.

Facilities: there are plenty of lounge areas (take your glasses to reflect the decor!) and communal areas are well kept and clean. There is even a basket with bottled water at the door, should you decide to go for a walk. The pool is a welcome bonus if the weather is warm and there are sun loungers around its perimeter.

Service: the staff were professional, but friendly, although we did encounter a couple of language barriers. Little touches, such as referring to you by name, makes the service stand out from other hotels. The staff were attentive but not obtrusive; nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

Overall, this is an excellent choice for a hotel in Guernsey and we will definitely return in the future.

Could not praise this hotel enough. We have very high standards but our stay surpassed all expectations. Excellent location at top of hill with lovely views down over Candie Gardens and port. We stayed in a superior room which was lovely. Prior to stay I requested a bath and just after arrival a special delivery of a very large bottle of bubble bath gave us an indication as to the attention to detail paid by the staff. Each and every staff member was perfect for their role and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely boutique hotel.

Visited the Duke on a Saturday afternoon. We chose to sit outside on the terrace.
We took our dog with us. This hotel is very dog friendly. The staff were very welcoming to both us and our little dog.
The afternoon tea was excellent. The staff efficient and friendly. We have been there before for tea and we will return.

Stayed for 4 days on a group business trip and was very lucky to be in this hotel. The location is amazing and the view exceptional. The staff were of an extremely high standard and were extremely attentive. The hotel was a little dated in regards to decor but immaculate.

Stayed recently here at the OGH as part of a birthday present for my wife. There is little to add that hasn't already been said in other reviews, as the OGH gets just about everything perfect, but I'll give it a go. Booking was straightforward, and reception checked a few days beforehand that everything was covered. We arrived prior to our room being available (c. midday) but were checked in, luggage left with concierge, and taken to the lounge area and provided with a cool glass of fizz. Much appreciated!

Our room (111) was extremely spacious and spotlessly clean, with a good view out across the harbour and to the sea. All the usual items were provided, as you'd expect in a 5* hotel, complimentary water, quality bathroom products, dressing gown, slippers (too small tho!) etc. but the overall feeling was of quality and attention to detail.

On our first evening, as we had decided not to dine out, we ate in the OGH' Curry Room. Service was faultless and the menu, although set, included some really good options, and the food itself was well spiced, perfectly presented and very tasty. Would recommend.

Breakfast is provided in the bright and airy dining room, and again, service from all staff was just as you would require, attentive but not intrusive. There were many options available from the menu, but the fruit, English breakfast, toast and juice we had was just right, and perfectly cooked. A really pleasant, leisurely and ideal start to the day.

OGH is located about five mins walk down a slope in to St Peter Port, which has some good shops, and some OK. We toured the island via bus (but be aware, service once you get off to view /visit etc) is only about one bus every 45 mins and some bus stops are just `Bus` written on the pavement. Can recommend Castle Cornet in the harbour area, not so the Underground Hospital, which could be so much more with some investment. There are some good pubs and restaurants in the town, particuarly recommend Le Nautique, booking essential. The town gets really busy on Saturday night, and there are the usual boisterous crowds revelling...

Overall, we couldn't recommend OGH more highly. They have got everything right, from the service provided, quality of food and drinks on offer, to the hotel itself, including the grounds, the room(s) and the spa (a new experience for me!). We would definitely recommend this to anyone to stay here. Its not cheap, but neither is it overly expensive either for what is provided, and also what should be expected at a hotel of this level and quality, which is exceeded on all levels. Well done to OGH staff, management and Red Carnation group, as you've really hit the mark here. Top quality. Great location. This is ideal for a perfect relaxing and somewhat indulgent Guernsey break. We'll be back.

We visited for a Sunday lunch and between 8 of us we had just about everything from a Club Sandwich to the Roast Beef. Very attentive staff, reasonable prices for the island's only 5 star hotel and an absolutely gorgeous setting. We'll be going back next time to stay for a weekend.

We stayed for 3 nights, the welcome was warm, our room was lovely, the spa facilities were good, food was fantastic, but the restaurant staff were not 5 star, we had no booking for our 1st night dinner, but this was quickly sorted, the staff member commented that guests do not want to sit in the restaurant booths, this was made very obvious as we were completely forgotten twice during our stay. To say we are disappointed is an understatement, if we stay again, I hope you have this issue sorted OGH.

My fiancé and I booked a table on Friday evening. The restaurant was busy but we were welcomed and seated promptly. The à la carte menu choices all sound wonderful and they also have a specials menu! After ordering we were served some lovely homemade focaccia, with accompanying hummus and olives, the garlic infused dipping sauce was also sensational. For starters we chose the octopus and scallops dishes both perfectly cooked and tasty. Mains were the Bass with lobster tempura and the fillet steak with lobster tempura. The steak was one of the best I have had in Jersey. Finally to finish we shared some sorbet (large selection of different flavours to choose from) All in all this was our first visit here but its now a firm favourite. Can’t wait to eat here again!
