We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel and can honestly say it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We were celebrating a birthday and a recovery from a serious illness and this was just the sort of luxury and pampering we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We splashed out and stayed in a suite which was beautiful with excellent views over the port. All the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted from Gavin by the pool, Keith and Jose in the Crown Club, Gonzalez at concierge and Ken, Norbert and the rest of the team in The Brasserie. Thank you for a fabulous stay - we will be back!

The team at the Old Government House hotel make it an exceptional place to stay and visit Guernsey. The welcome was friendly and efficient, the restaurant staff professional and very attentive, they were there when you needed them, and nothing was too much trouble. The Spa is below the hotel, open to outsiders, it offers 5 treatments rooms, a wet room and sauna and steam room. The therapists were friendly and the treatments excellent.
Our bedroom was not big, but breakfast on the balcony in April was a real treat! The rooms are very well equipped, high quality towels, bathrobes and bathroom products. Free wifi.
The location is perfect for strolling round the town, great boutiques to shop in, and many fine restaurants to choose from.
We are looking forward to our next trip to Guernsey and staying at the hotel!

Our three day stay in Guernsey was exceptional thanks to the OGH. The hotel, facilities, rooms, service and food are all excellent, and far exceeded any expectations. The staff could not have been more helpful and polite, and this renovated colonial retreat is a gem. We would defintiely return.

My wife and myself had a very enjoyable, six night stay at the OGH. We found all the staff to be friendly and excellent at their jobs, in particular Stewart , P J, joseph, and Katya. We took with us our cocker spaniel Mabel , she was made to feel as welcome as any human in the hotel and received the full five star service, providing a bed, towel, treats, bowls, etc, all at no extra cost.
We booked a "king "room with a balcony overlooking Herme and Sark and wasn't disappointed , the view was fabulous. All the food we ate in the hotel was superb, in the main restaurant, the sea bass was so tasty. The curry room provided excellent indian food with a great choice of wines for each course. The champagne afternoon tea was equally as good and plentifull,as was all the breakfasts.
Overall we had a very enjoyable experience and will certainly look to stay at the OGH again in the future.

Stayed at the OGH for three nights and have nothng but positive things to say about it.
Great location a few hundred meters up the hill from St Peter port, quiet garden with pool.
Rooms are a bit Small but more than big enough for two people who doesn't intend to spend all their time in there.
Great breakfast wih a buffet and a range of choices from the kitchen.

We had a lovely stay in the hotel. We think it is overpriced for what it is, but is the best in town. The hotel is a bit of a warren and rooms are variable quality so choose carefully. Spa seems a little detached from the main hotel, almost as if operated by another company. Would return.

My "Average" rating is not strictly accurate, as stays at this hotel can range from Poor to Excellent. The hotel need to address two issues.

The first is that the satisfaction with a stay is far too highly dependent on the room allocated. Rooms at the front overlooking the harbour, some with small balconies, are excellent. Those at the rear and side overlooking the car park and, more importantly, the bins (which are emptied in the early hours of the morning) are noisy and can be terrible. Others are quite cramped and at least one has just one tiny window requiring the lights on even in mid-summer. Frankly, it's all too much of a lottery.

The other issue is that dinner at the restaurant, which should be one of the best in Guernsey, is just "OK to Good". It should be outstanding and there is no excuse for it not being so. The result is that we always eat dinner out and the hotel loses valuable revenue. I should add that breakfasts (especially) and lunches are fine.

The staff are great (although the concierge could smile a little more!). This is still probably Guernsey's best hotel but it could be better.

I am fortunate enough to stay in many so called top hotels in different parts of the world: London, North America and Asia - and the OGH outshines them all. Quite superb. The manager, Andrew Chantrell, has created a world class hotel. The combination of quality of decor, the thought that has gone into rooms and their design and presentation, the restaurants and bars, the pleasing variety of styles and above all the staff - for example, Dave, Ken and Jozef are outstanding, as are all the reception desk staff, housekeeping and bar staff - are brilliant, they make the stay as good as it is. There is a wonderful restaurant called the Brasserie which is outstanding - there is a recurring theme here - in both food and service. Try lunch and breakfast overlooking the pool, drinks in the library - wonderful. For a stay of any sort - family, couples or business, I have not seen better, certainly not in London. The hotel is on the edge of St Peter Port, but you may not feel the need or wish to leave the hotel to go into town (although I have to say that it is a very pleasant walk). This hotel is very special. If you get a chance to go, take it. We can't wait to go back.

Having stayed at OGH over the last 9 Years, I was pleased to see the level of maintenance this year was high with the exterior and public rooms looking refreshed. I was also impressed with the latest addition of the Crown Club and its facilities and the exceptionally good and reasonably priced Curry Room (formerly the Governors Restaurant). The staff were welcoming, charming and helpful. The hotel has raised its game and is exceptional. For its position, amenities and quality of food and service, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.
