It was worth the journey, what a fabulous place. Loved the décor & ambiance, great menu & friendly, attentive & professional staff....it was so good to see you again Anna!! And Chivu too! I stayed here for a couple of nights. My office has booked me into a standard room which I found comfortable and well laid out; wi-fi connection also came in handy. As I had to prepare some documents for the meeting next morning I decided to dine in and was not disappointed (I would particularly recommend their house-made desserts). Restaurant Manager was very helpful with his wine suggestions.
Due to the nature of my business I have stayed in many hotels and the Duke of Richmond is among those I would happily recommend to others.
At the Duke I immediately felt very welcome, the hotel staff was always very nice and friendly. I had to reschedule my future booking to another date and it was no problem at all. Girls at reception, always helpful and attentive, were very efficient.
Hotel is located in a quiet area yet within easy walking distance to the town centre, close not only to many offices, but also to their best pubs and restaurants.
All in all I was very happy with my experience at this hotel, from my point of view it was a good value for money

My 3 friends and myself have recently returned from a weekend in Guernsey, where we stayed at the Duke of Richmond Hotel, in superior ajoining rooms with sea views. The rooms were spacious and all are needs were met on request. We arrived at 9.15 p.m. and there didnt seem to be enough towels in the bathroom, one phone call to reception and in seconds we had enough towels to open a shop.
The hotel is up hill from the shops, so I wouldnt advise people with walking difficulties and no car, to stay there.
But we enjoyed the 5 minute walk down to the harbour and the cobbled shopping street.
The friday we arrived there was a yahting club dinner dance on and the following night the masonics dinner was on, but it wasnt noisy, we had a drink in the seperate bar thats like an old ship, but last orders are 11.30 so don't expect a late night, its not that sort of place.
Breakfast was great, you had all the usual cereals, toast, fruit ect. to help yourself to. Followed by a choice of either scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, kippers, smoked haddock with poached egg, or full english. All served in a lovely breakfast room with conservatory attached with tables in also.
It is just a really nice hotel with personal service because its not too big. I have already booked for next october to return with my husband, because I would like him to benefit from the tranquility and pleasing surroundings in and outside the hotel. I have never written a review before I hope this helps.

As a Cruising Sailor I became acquainted with Guernsey in the days when it was one of the late Ollie's (Oliver Reed) favourite hang-outs...Following reservation communications directly with Shelley, the most efficient Front Office Manager (great personality and a mine of info' even though she is a "KIWI" joke dear!), we flew from Southapmton and were met at the Airport by our driver whom took us directly to the Hotel. As we were arriving late, Shelley arranged for our luggage to go to our room while we were escorted directly to the Dining Room just in time for a scrumptious imaginatively prepared Sea-Food Feast and accompanying Vino..
Following this we went to our large well appointed room where we experienced a problem with the heating and hotwater. A call to the front desk brought engineers immediately to the scene together with the Gen'Mngr Stephen Purtill and in the blink of an eye we were transported to an even larger room with everything A1. We learned that the Hotel was still undergoing refurbishment and no doubt due to Mr. Purtill's excellent team management there was minimal disruption to the Guest services and we felt a genuine warmth with willing to please attitude from the entire staff...Breakfast Buffet and Menu excellent as were the other Menu's. Both Check-in and out were efficient and we were allowed a later than normal check out; our luggage was placed in a safe room until our transport arrived allowing us more time to shop un-encumbered..Being in the Cruise & Hospitality Industry I am familiar with behind the scene admin and mechanics that enables the watch to tick..Owners better look out or I may steal Stephen & Shelley plus a few!!!
Thanks from us John & Tess for helping to make our stay so enjoyably memorable..

My husband and I have recently returned from Guernsey where we had a delightful Christmas break at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. The memorable experience we had has fully lived up to all good reviews we had read on tripadvisor prior to our trip.
Our elegant newly-refurbished room was just perfect-light and spacious with breathtaking views of St Peter Port and the neighbouring islands. A large comfortable bed with crisp linen; underfloor heating in the modern bathroom which we really appreciated after those long after-lunch walks in the cold. Their food deserves special mention. Everything from their plentiful, varied breakfast, afternoon teas with delicious house-made cakes of a more-ish kind to festive lunches and dinners were among the best we have ever had. The Christmas lunch was a pinnacle of culinary delight! Traditional, yet complimented with Guernsey speciality - local seafood cooked and presented to perfection!
The staff were fantastic - most helpful and efficient. From the moment we arrived we immediately felt welcome and by the end of our stay we knew the names of these friendly and attentive people who made our experience at this hotel unforgettable.
We simply could not fault anything. Top-class service, friendly staff, excellent food, and a great entertaintment programme the hotel was provided over Christmas – everything you could have ever wished for!
What a lovely way it was to spend Christmas, we are definitely rebooking for 2009!

The Duke of Richmond is an excellent base for a visit to Guernsey. The rooms are a good size and are clean, the staff are particularly friendly and the food is well above average. The location is good, too: about a fifteen minute walk up hill from the main street, though quicker if you're fitter.

The downsides? None really. The relationship between the stairs and the lift is somewhat quirky - you go up in the lift, then down some steps to your room.

Thoroughly recommended.

I occasionally travel to Guernsey on business and have stayed in about 5 different hotels there now over the years. This time I decided on the Duke of Richmond which I booked directly from their website. My primary reasons for that were its excellent location, right in the centre of St Peter Port and my colleagues’ recommendations.
My flight from Gatwick was delayed so I checked-in late in the evening. I was welcomed with a friendly smile and the hassle free check in took no time at all, just what was needed after a long day at the office and travelling.

I went straight to their Cocktail bar to have my dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the experience with the excellent fare (local seafood) being complemented by friendly and efficient service.

My park-side room was of a good size, modern and well-appointed with a large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with brand new appliances and the water pressure was very good.
Wifi is also available throughout the hotel at a reasonable cost.
A very good choice of menu for your breakfast and the full English went down a treat to start the day. Again, the service was first class.

All in all, from the staff and facilities to the genuine hospitality I was shown at the hotel, I have found a new favourite place to stay when visiting the island in future which offers excellent value for money and cannot be recommended too highly.

My only regret now is that I didn't find this place years ago!

Just arrived back this morning from the Duke of Richmond, Guernsey. We arrived Sat morning to a very friendly receptionist who kindly upgraded us to a Park Side Executive Room (we had only booked a standard double). It was an excellent size, with good facilities - flat screen TV, new shower and comfortable queen size bed. The breakfast we excellent - with tentative staff and lots of delicious things to eat. The hotel was in a perfect location - 5 mins for the town (St Peter's Port), and the hill proved excellent for keeping your bum in trim! I would certainly use this hotel again and was very impressed with it's excellent customer service and overall standards / appearance. The bar is nautically cute - but the prices were a tad expensive (£14.00 for a large Tia Maria and Amaretto). My 5.30am room service was a few mins early and my 6am taxi (organised by the hotel) was ready and waiting. Well done Duke of Richmond - keep up with those excellent standards.

My friend and I stayed three nights at this hotel. The staff were very good, very attentive and courteous. Breakfast was excellent and the hotel very clean. However our bedroom was something else. It was clean but very very dated and old fashioned, It is a long time since I have seen an avocado suite, tiles from the 70's, blankets and bedspreads, old hairdryer and polystyrene tiles on the ceiling. The disappointment was increased when we glimpsed other bedrooms that had been refurbished with white suites, duvets and neutral decor. We had asked for a twin room and booked through air miles so whether this made any difference to our room allocation maybe, however it was a huge disappointment when the other facilities were good. I advise that if you book this hotel you ensure you avoid room 303.

Excellent newly refurbished rooms.
Service throughout 100%
Consider booking dinners with hotel room as food was excellent with reasonably priced wine.
About 5 to 10 minute walk downhill to town centre.
Excellent and economical bus travel.
