This is a fantastic hotel and exceeded our expectations in many ways. From the moment we arrived, all of the staff were welcoming and helpful and many of the staff address us by name throughout our stay. We were given help with our luggage and shown to an excellent room, very large with a king size bed, clean, very well supplied with toiletries, etc. The room had a good view, with the sea in the distance. We stayed on a room and breakfast basis and the breakfasts were excellent on all three days, with plenty of choice and hot food quickly cooked to order. We had the champagne afternoon tea on our arrival day, which had enough well presented food to last us many hours, along with a good choice of teas. We did not eat in the hotel in the evenings, preferring to eat out as there are many restaurants in the town. The hotel is well situated about half a mile inland. We always walked down into town, but happily paid about £4.50 for the return journey by taxi, to avoid having to walk up hill. Overall, this was a perfect place to stay and at a sensible cost. It is difficult to find anything to fault with the hotel. We would certainly stay here again if we return to Guernsey.

Entrance all changed- feels like arriving in south African bush upmarket hotel except it is Guernsey.
All public areas updated - new carpets in corridors BUT theod 1970 s room doors and non electronic keys are unchanged. Inside room it is boudoir lie- nice to see bathroom updated but still seems odd door room is unchanged.
New staff in updated bar/ restaurant. Most meals priced £10-£20 but since reopening they seem to have nearly doubled price of wines so cheapest nw £22 per bottle yet I hadvsignaturevdish chicken for £10.
Not sure thy have worked out how up market they are pitching- wines are well up there but food menu is less formal eg burgers, fish and chips etc.
Some of the previous old worked charm has gone- has it just been replaced by hype and higher prices?

Just stayed here for a wonderful quiet week, staff fabulous and food to die for. A bit back from the busy town, next to a lovely park. Really enjoyable stay and would go back again. The updated decor was of S.African origin, perhaps not to everyones taste but all clean and tidy as the hotel has only just been revamped.

We visited The Duke of Richmond for a 4 day break on 22nd July to the 25th July. Loved the hotel and art deco decor. The weather was fantastic and we did a lot of walking and managed a trip to Herm. The hotel was clean and breakfasts were good with lots to choose from. I can recommend the kippers. We only ate in 1 night had half of chicken which was too big for us but very tender. The only problem we found was the noise from fans below our balcony. All the waiting staff we came in contact with were lovely with a smile and very helpful. Even the cleaning staff had a smile on their faces. I would like to mention Caterina and Juan who couldn't do enough to help. Would go back.

Last year we stayed at the Old Government House and having read that Red Carnations had bought the Duke of Richmond we decided to spend a week there this year July 23rd - August 4th. The public areas of the hotel have all been upgraded and are excellent in every way - at the moment not all the bed rooms have been refurbished but those we saw, which had been completed, looked stunning. We were allocated room 407 - not refurbished (except for a new excellent bathroom) but a very spacious room which overlooked the terrace and beyond to the harbour.

The staff throughout the hotel were excellent and in particular praise should go to Olga, David and Orlando who clearly have the personal and professional commitment/skills to ensure that every guest is made to feel welcome and special.

If I have one complaint it is with the choice of menu in the restaurant.

The hotel now boasts a conservatory where meals are served but the choices on offer look more suited, in my opinion, to an up market gastro pub rather than a four star hotel. Don't misunderstand me the food is excellent - well presented and service outstanding but as a four star hotel it cries out for an A la Carte option.

Bizzarly the menu "card" is a plastic wipe clean version yet the breakfast menu, bar menu and room service "cards" are all personalised booklets which look much better and are far more akin to what you would expect from a RCH.

I am sure that the Duke of Richmond will grow to be a excellent addition to the RCH group and we will have a difficult decision next year whether our regular holiday will be at OGH or The Duke of Richmond.

Anyone concidering Gurnsey for a holiday! This was our first time and it was fabulous. It was made even more special because of the beautiful hotel we stayed at, The Duke Of Richmond. This beautiful hotel didn't falt in any aspect. The whole staff team were amazing from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out. Everyone was so friendly, pleasent and helpful. The check in staff Pauline and Jonathan could not do enough to help and assist, Olga and Alex from the resturant were so very proffesional and helpful, also Olando from the bar was always so polite and friendly. That was just a few of the members of staff we came to know during our visit, but we can honestly say every member of staff in that hotel was so curtious. A definate recomendation!

Lovely hotel, with friendly attentive staff and very good food. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and the staff were very polite and friendly. Our room was spacious and very comfortable even though we had an extra bed in it for our grandaughter. The hotel was very quiet at night and we all got a good nights sleep. The only minor niggle was that there was no chest of drawers in the room which meant keeping some of our clothes in the suitcases.. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation and would definately go back again.

Although listed as 4 star (and 3 star in the Aurigny flight magazine!) this is probably as near to a 5 star hotel as makes no difference. Of special note are all the staff who are ever-attentive and friendly and made our stay perfect at all times. We arrived on a morning flight and yet were in our room within minutes of arriving. Obviously that won't always happen but just the fact that they were expecting us to arrive and had everything printed out and to hand was a welcome change to the long check in wait and registration ritual performed in many hotels.

The hotel is kept spotless at all times and although I gather some rooms aren't upgraded yet I assume they will all be to the extremely high standard of ours when done so. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom pristine and well laid out with a proper size bath one can actually fit in.

Breakfast is excellent with a wide choice of offerings freshly cooked to order combined with a good selection of continental style breakfasts. The evening meal was also very good, though it appears the same menu is offered every night so we only 'ate in' once. A rotating menu might have encouraged us to do so more often.

My only negative comment would be that light sleepers who like fresh air such as myself are going to be woken up at 6:20 each morning when the kitchen extractor fan is turned on. But getting up and closing the balcony door silenced the noise completely and ensured a couple more hours good rest unlike many hotels where the windows and curtains seem to have no sound absorbancy at all.

One point to note though is that the hotel is at the top of a steep hill from the harbour and not on a bus route. This wasn't a problem for us and indeed a walk through the lovely Candie gardens each morning and evening was a bonus, but might be for some.

Overall we had an excellent experience at this excellent hotel which showed that good hotels are not a thing of the past.

We got a winter deal here BUT Red Carnation Hotels decided that they were closing the hotel to revamp the public areas - they offered to accommodate us in the summer... Without blackout dates! We snatched their hands off... so good is the care and attention they pay to guests!

The hotel is, I should say, a boutique hotel on a grand scale... rooms are lush and beds are too comfortable for words! Food is fantastic and the pool area is great... though photos tend to be taken by wide angled lens and make it look enormous!

We felt like Royalty during our stay here - the Wife has decreed that we will be spending out 10th anniversary thery next autumn... and I have to say that I agree with her choice!!!

Try it - you will not be disappointed!

Just returned from a two night stay on business and cannot recommend highly enough.
Beautiful clean comfortable room and exceptional staff.
I visit Guernsey 4/5 times per year and discovered the DOR via Trip Advisor, I always like to try different hotels but think I have found my "home from home" and will definitely be back.
My particular highlight was breakfast on the beautiful terrace with a view of the harbour.
I feel in the spirit of these review sites I need to say something negative so here goes... Parking can be difficult with only 4 spaces allocated for the hotel and limited roadside parking nearby, though this is fairly typical around St Peter Port.
And I was very disappointed when the free jelly beans were replaced by mint imperials, I prefer jelly beans.
Thanks to all for a great stay, and I look forward to seeing you again in October.
