We have just stayed at this hotel for 10 nights, this being the first time that we have visited Guernsey. The hotel is only 4 miles from the airport and can either be reached by a bus to St Peter Port followed with a 15 minute steep walk up to the hotel or taxi. The hotel is a 4 star hotel and deserves to be. The rooms are very comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities and toiletries provided ( the only thing missing in our room was a fridge although fresh milk was provided gratis.)The bathroom had a shower over the bath which was a most powerful power shower. There is a small outside heated swimming pool on the terrace which is open from 8am.
Breakfast can be eaten in the dining room, conservatory or outside where there is a sea view. Breakfast is plentiful with several choices which are served to the table. We dined in the restaurant for one evening meal which we did find was rather expensive, all of the main courses come with a very small garnish but no vegetables which is charged as an extra, e.g. I had a t bone steak which although was £22.50 served with cress, a mushroom and a tomato , the chips that I ordered with it were an extra £3.50 which seemed a little excessive. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing proved to be too much trouble for them, we were looked after very well. Should we return to Guernsey we wouldn't hesitate staying in the Duke of Richmond again.

Just back from 3 days in Guernsey at this lovely hotel. The hill up and down from the port was a struggle at the beginning, but by the end of the holiday it became second nature and to stay at this lovely hotel, its something I would happily do again. The staff were all amazing from front desk to restaurant staff they were all friendly and went the extra mile. We're already planning next years break....and will be back!

The Duke of Richmond is part of a group of luxury hotels around the world. I suspect it has seen better days but still good depending on what you book. I stayed in a Classic double room which for 4 star hotel was rather small and with a small bathroom. You had to edge round the bed and the bathroom door was less than a metre from the bed so not good if you were sleeping and your partner went to the bathroom it would wake you up. There also was blue light perminently on in the bathroom which could be seen in the bedroom which was irritating for those who like to sleep in the dark. There was also no fridge in the room which is unusual for a 4 star hotel. Our room 307 was right next to a lift so I would avoid it if you are a light sleeper. Fortunately it was broken for the three days we were there otherwise we would have insisted to be moved.

The restaurant was ok but the food was not brilliant so best to eat out each day. At breakfast make sure they do not put you on the table by the computer and the breakfast menus as staff and customers keep brushing past you which is irritating. Two of our four slices of toast were obviously burnt but they still served it and my chicken was also partially burnt. Also the waitress forgot to get something I ordered so a bit more staff training I think.

The reception also struggled to cope when there were errors on the bill and I struggled to get help booking a visit to a local tourist attraction. The hotel is located up a steep hill from the town centre so whilst easy walking into town it was a struggle walking back. The staff were generally friendly and helpful.

Super hotel in an ideal off town location.
The restaurant chefs select and produce excellent food all served to an extremely high standard by superb staff. Dont miss the breakfast bacon, it was the best Ive ever tasted.
Our room was not overly large but well appointed with very comfortable bed and seamless air-conditioning. Housekeeping was highly proffesional and practically invisible.

The 'spa' is actually the 'Revolution Health Club at The OGH' and is open to anyone for a one month subscription, the treatment section is loosely managed and seemingly for locals, both are best avoided if you have experience of genuine Spa Hotels.
The hotel is regularly used for conferences and but the delgates are very well managed by dedicated hotel staff and rarely give cause for concern.

Would we stay at the OGH again? Yes, most certainly!

Haven't been for ages but rocked up as birthday drinks in motion for a friend. Pleasantly surprised. Less pomp n ceremony, good vibe, great service from staff despite drinkers paying little attention. The added touches of great nibbles with a sense of privacy with service is second to none. Thank you Ashley! Not your obvious Friday night drinking hole but after last Friday I'm sold!

Excellent food, excellent service.

Stayed here for 1 night on business. Is the only 5 star on the island apparently. The building is very old and grand all classic and stylishly decorated. Had a queen delux room, nicely appointed but fairly small I would say for the price.
Nice coffee and biscuits in the room and L'Occitane products in the bathroom.
2 bars and bistro and breakfast really nice. Best hotel on the island, but not 5 star compared to London etc.

Booked a studio suite direct with hotel. Less than websites and included a £50 voucher on dining in hotel. Great location. Well trained and helpful staff. Food and wine excellent. Room nice but air-con not very effective and no hot water in shower. Otherwise, very good and we would return.

A comfortable, relaxing stay at the OGH (as it brands itself), in a luxurious 'King' room, recently refurbished to a high standard. The service offered was of a high standard especially in the restaurant, where we commend the professionalism of Maitre D' Ken, and in the excellent Spa-Gym facility, overseen by genially efficient manager, Danny.

We dined in the Brasserie restaurant twice during our stay and in the Governor's Room on a third evening. Overall, the food served was prepared and presented at a very high standard.

One thing that we noted that must be improved would be to include all the key ingredients served in a dish in it's menu description. The Lobster soup offered in the dinner menu contained (unrequired) bacon pieces. This ingredient was not mentioned in the soup's menu description, significantly altered the flavour of a seafood dish, and could cause a problem if served without warning to pescatarians, members of the various faiths which do not favour the eating of pork products and any other diners - such as this reviewer - who do not wish to eat bacon / chorizo / ham pieces unnecessarily added to seafood meals.
