Duke of Richmond hotel

I had a three night stay here in September 107 (room 109). The hotel is up on the hill overlooking St Peter Port, a ten minute walk down into town. There is an outdoor swimming pool and a terrace lounge next to it, which is a nice spot to sit if the weather is good. The hotel breakfast is unusually good, cooked to order rather than a buffet, and with all the usual options. The room was what an estate agent might describe as “cosy”, but it had plenty of electrical sockets, air conditioning and a comfortable albeit rather small bed. The room had a little kettle, with tea and coffee provided.
The best aspect of the stay was the unusually high quality staff, who were eager to please and helpful throughout our stay. Incidentally, if when staying here you need a taxi, then allow enough time to order one. There is currently no Uber here, and a taxi can take quite a while to sort out. I was impressed that on one occasion, when even with half an hour to spare no taxi was forthcoming despite the reception staff’s best efforts, one of the staff gave us a lift instead.

We have stayed at this hotel firstly July 2014, on at least 4 occasions and more recently a long weekend July 17 and 1 night Oct 17!

First weekend back in July 2014 I was celebrating my birthday and for breakfast as it was our last day provided a slice of cake complete with candle and the staff singing happy birthday!

We brought our cocker spaniel Pepsi with us in July 2017 and amazing response from all staff members made a pet certificate and door cards especially for her, treats in the room and constant attention making us feel very welcome with our dog, not what we were expecting from such a highly class hotel, it was as if our dog was royalty!!

We got married 30th Sept in Sark and on what was suppose to be our Journey home to Jersey we decided we could not leave Guernsey without staying in our favorite hotel for 1 more night and wow a congratulations card and bottle of fizz was waiting in our room, all the staff are always happy to see you and will have a chat anytime, amazing hotel with first class service!

It’s the length that you guys go to make the extra mile is very much appreciated!!

Thank you!!!!

I have been in Guernsey for business for the past four days working out of the conference room at the hotel. The staff have been absolutely wonderful and made me feel like one of the team by the time I left. Hilario and his team were particularly excellent and did more than required when I had some issues (not the hotels fault) with my conference. Nothing was too much trouble and even my delegates commented on how well we were looked after.
I work away every week and the service I received here is the best I've experienced all year. Hilario, Adrian Aaron and the team really did make the difference.
Thank you - I will certainly recommend my company use you again.

We spent a long weekend at OGH 9-12 June. We had a Double Room overlooking the front and main street. From the moment we arrived to our last moments we were expertly looked after. They are not just offering customer service they have a mission to create perfect moments and really want to make your stay the best it can possibly be. The restaurant and bar staff remember your name and quickly build rapport, offering suggestions and support even before you know you need it - toast crumb tickled my throat and a glass of juice swiftly passed to me to ease my coughing fit.

Room was large for a basic double, bed was comfortable all amenities covered including robes and slippers. I also was delighted to find L'occitane products in the bathroom. Wide selection on the tea tray. Fresh milk is available on request. Bathroom had shower over the bath and could do with an upgrade. All towels and bedlinen high quality. Even tho we overlooked the main street double Windows cut out all noise.

Restaurant provides a varied breakfast freshly cooked hot food to order. Evening meal was delightful and generous portions - honeycomb ice cream is superb. Piano man provides the right ambiance wonderful rendition of James Taylor songs. If you dont want a large meal the Crown Club provides a range of smaller plates and sandwiches - my husband said it was the best burger he has ever had.

Gardens and poolside a complete delight, well managed and tidy. The most comfortable sun beds and free sun cream available in different factors. Water freely available throughout.

Overall a relaxing break which became a real luxury treat, although you are paying a little bit more the care and service and overall quality of products and food is worth it.

Just returned from another visit. Everything was just as fab as before. Thank you to all the lovely staff, so friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back again. The hotel is beautiful. The food is amazing. If you go to Guernsey you must stay here. I can't praise it enough.

Have just returned from our holiday in Guernsey at the OGH. From the moment of arrival, this was like finding 'a little bit of Heaven'.
We were welcomed into beautiful surroundings with a glass of 'bubbly', our luggage immediately taken to our room. We were then given a short tour of the hotel and escorted to our room by a charming, courteous and helpful member of the 'front of house' staff.
The ambience of the Hotel is truly delightful; relaxing, gracious and comfortable. The staff without exception, were of the very best, helpful, considerate and kind. Kieron in particular was most helpful with our travel arrangements.
Every meal was a delight and we particularly loved the garden and the heated swimming pool.
Well done OGH, we loved every minute of our holiday and Guernsey is of course, delightful.

We have stayed at the OGH several times in the past but until last weekend hadn't been there for 15 years. We were delighted to find it was as good as it ever was. The OGH is an old style hotel with a modern touch. The setting is idyllic, the staff plentiful and standards are excellent. We would recommend it to anyone who wasn't looking for a 'formula' hotel.

At the top end of Guernsey hotels this has had some money spent over the years and I have been coming for nearly 20. Occasionally it feels a little bit tired but the main thing above all else is the staff. They are the most helpful, most pleasant group you would find in any hotel. Some have been there decades!!
Word of warning some rooms have terrible views and some the sound proofing can be a bit suspect. Try to go for a better option or see what other rooms are free

Just perfect, great location fantastic attention to detail in every respect and thoroughly enjoyed being pampered. Probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at.
Tiny examples of attention to detail - TV remote controlled was "sanitised" and a blue light in the bathroom so could find it in the dark.

We recently visited the old government house hotel for a birthday getaway. The staff were incredibly helpfull and were always on hand to provide exceptional service. They helped me pick out the perfect room for the nature of our trip and I couldn't fault it. I appreciate some rooms may not have such a good view as others but from the room that was recommended to me, from the balcony we could see the whole of St Peter port and neighbouring islands Herm and Sark.
The food at the hotel was superb. We had two breakfasts, lunch and a dinner at the brasserie during our stay. All excellent. The weather was beautiful so we enjoyed our lunch out in the immaculate garden.
The pool is lovely and warm and in a real sun trap. On a hot day you wouldn't want to hang around when it comes to bagging yourself a sunbed as they are quite limited.
My fiance used the spa and enjoyed back shoulder neck and head massages. I was impressed with the gym as it had everything you would expect from a good quality gym including a decent free weights area.
I can't speak highly enough about this hotel and I'd like to visit more in the Red Carnation Hotel Collection in the future.
