We have stayed at many places over 50 years! This was the Best Experience ever, for us, in hospitality, service, facilities and quality of accommodation; The Brasserie Restaurant, in a beautiful setting, provided an excellent range for breakfasts and the one dinner we had was most enjoyable. We are looking forward to visiting again, even if it's just to sample the experience promised in the Curry Room!

The Hotel is not on the seafront, and indeed the seafront at St Peter Port consists of end to end harbours where the rich and/or famous moor their boats. The hotel is old, and this shows as you become aware of limitations as you use, eg the wardrobe, the desk where the chair is too deep for sensible use as a writing table, the mottled mirror behind the bed and so on. The bathroom is good and towels and accessories (Occident) excellent. Most of all our luxury double room was small, and I hate to think how small a standard room would be. I had to park our cases under the desk or in the wardrobe. For the price I expect a larger room.
The hotel lounge is in the centre of the public spaces and does not have any outside windows. It also tends to become a thoroughfare for hotel staff and waiters, but it is here that you can enjoy a full cream tea (£30). If you are using the lounge for quiet reading you will probably find the lighting is good for this only in a couple of arm chairs.
The staff are excellent, every one. They are always smiling, constantly attentive, willing to give advice and share ideas for things to do. Breakfast is excellent, dinner less so. It is very pricey and there are some outstanding restaurants in town. That said the curry restaurant at OGH is cosy and the curries exceptional. We ate at Nautique and it really is a memorable fine dining experience of London quality without London prices. But you need to book well in advance...even advance of your visit to Guernsey! Dix Neuf is the other end of the scale, noisy and busy, but good portion meals at reasonable prices if that is how you like it.

If the weather is right there is good walking to be had along the cliffs, especially east and south. Be aware that these walks need stamina and are for experienced walkers. Don't miss the millenium tapestry, especially if you have an interest in creative embroidery. The pool looked inviting, and there is a gym. However, it is these extras to the hotel itself which increase the price of your bed and breakfast stay. That is worth considering if you do not use all that the hotel has to offer in this respect

Spent a really nice early evening on the small terrace. The staff were really friendly and super helpful. A bottle of Italian fix for £30 including nibbles. Watching the sun go down. Looking at the sea in the distance. A great start to a mini break

The location is great, just a few minutes walk to the quay, with all its restaurants and attractions. Then the outstanding service both downstairs and upstairs which is welcoming, friendly and good in every way. We had a room with a balcony and good views to the sea which we enjoyed.
Breakfast is really good, we were lucky with nice weather and could choose to eat in the Brasserie or in the garden immediately outside it. Prompt, polite service and very comfortable surroundings. We also used the garden area later in the day, really nice.
For part of our stay we had a rental car and the hotel whisked it away from the front door and parked it for us every time, great service.
The WiFi is very good as is the air conditioning including in our room. The pool area is well kept with drinks etc available.
Now a couple of niggles, it’s an old building and it’s reasonable to have the decor in the rooms in keeping with its age but my personal view is that our room could do with a restyle: chairs and curtains matched well while the wall mirror had a very ornate black surround which didn’t really go with the brown furniture: tables didn’t match, bedside drawers just about opened, and although the room was very clean & everything worked, it could have been so much nicer with a bit more attention and maybe different wall decor (pictures, mirror not the wall covering itself which was fine) and furniture.
We ate dinner in the Brasserie twice, the second time we enjoyed listening to the pianist who was very good. It’s quite expensive and the first time one of the pork chops was pink in the middle, possibly not cooked through while the second time the dishes were not as the waiter described, resulting in a generous refund & free after dinner drinks.
A nice touch was a hand written postcard after we got home hoping we had enjoyed our stay. Yes, we did.

My husband and I recently spent three nights at The Old Government House Hotel and enjoyed every minute there. It is beautifully decorated and the service is everything one could wish for -- even down to the young staff member who knocked on our door shortly after our arrival to ask if we'd like her to unpack for us. Part of the fun staying there was finding our way around the maze of corridors and stairs and finding one interesting public room after another. I'm not sure that if one were extremely handicapped this would be a plus, however. The meals we ate at the hotel were delicious from breakfast to dinner. The view from the dining room looking out at the garden was a joy also. I am very sorry that I don't have a photo to post showing the green and white decor of the dining room looking out at the green lawn of the garden with the many gorgeous red geraniums. The hotel is very conveniently located for exploring the shops and restaurants in St. Peter Port. High marks all around! I can't comment on the value for money, because we were part of a very small touring group and this was prepaid as part of a package.

The hotel seems to be a somewhat out of the centre of St. Peter Port but in reality it is a very short walk into town. All reception and other staff we met were super helpful and pleasant, and helpful without being obsequious or demanding tips, etc. Parking is no problem as the hotel lets you pull up to an offloading area and then will valet park it for you in their small, but sufficient, car park.
The room was comfy, quiet, and very well maintained.

We did not stay for lunch or dinner - as there were plenty of options in the town and we were looking to experience as much variety as possible during our visit. The menus, however, seemed very appealing.

We stayed at the OGHH for two nights at the start of our first experiment with travelling with our dog. The hotel could not have been more accommodating, even going so far as to pre-install a lovely dog bed in the room. There was no problem bringing the dog to the outside terrace for breakfast or taking her across the road to a small park when nature called in the middle of the night.

In our 16 night trip, the 2 nights at OGHH really stood out. I cannot recommend this hotel more strongly.

Beautiful decor, excellent quality of food and the staff are fabulous. I have to mention three members of staff in particular. Linda and Olga in the restaurant are so good at their jobs it is noteworthy. Emma on reception very helpful and friendly.
The only minus for me was that the double room was very small and I am glad I was in there on my own. Beautiful room but small.

The customer service is excellent with a great attention to detail and staff going the extra mile. The location was perfect and decor beautiful. The bed was particularly comfy and the views breathtaking. They serve a very good breakfast and refreshing drinks at reception. Really appreciated the ease of bike renting as well.
Couldn't have been better! Would definitely return if visiting Guernsey again.

We had a few gluten free people in our group and everything went perfectly with our Wimbledon style afternoon tea . We loved being given a selection of different teas in leaf form in labelled jars to select our preferred and individual choice . Tea being served in “ Wimbledon style” boxes complete with little nets was also different to the norm and beautifully presented with each of two people sharing a box and each portion separated by the net !! The food was delicious and the service was spot on . I was impressed that the Waiter even remembered who had ordered which tea ! A most enjoyable Afternoon tea and I would certainly recommend it to others .
