My wife and I celebrated our silver wedding anniversary at the Duke of Richmond and had a wonderful stay. The staff were always pleasant, helpful and courteous, nothing was too much trouble. They complied with my request for flowers, and helped keep it a surprise for my wife. They even left us a selection of cakes and a card signed by all the staff.
Wouldn't hesitate in recommending the hotel, or staying there again.
Many thanks to all the staff for making our trip a memorable one, we just wished we could have stayed longer.

Stayed here for one night on business with colleagues. This is a very good hotel but not quite worthy of five stars,. but this might have been down to my individual room.

Staff service is extremely good and they will all go out of their way to help you. Bar and food prices very reasonable and location and grounds are beautiful. My only complaint is that the room I was allocated was rather poor as it was at the side of the building overlooking a car park and some bins which were emptied at 4 in the morning. If you pay more no doubt you will end up with a beautiful sea view.

Will definitely stay again

OGH is ideally situated close to the town centre, shops, harbour, restaurants and amenities of St Peter Port. Public rooms are elegantly furnished with an emphasis on comfort throughout. Bedrooms are well equipped and cosy if a little small in our case. Parking is provided nearby (a big plus in this town) and staff willingly park and return the car for you.
An excellent variety of food and wines with a wide price list are available throughout the day.
The feature which makes the hotel outstanding is the courteous service and attention from all members of staff. They are friendly and helpful at all times reminding us of the way hotels used to be focused on providing the best possible service for guests.
We cannot recommend OGH highly enough.

Hi
My partner John and I picked a lovely sunny weekend to celebrate our 6th anniversary in Guernsey. We chose this hotel having stayed on this beautiful island last May. At this time we stayed elewhere and ate at the Old G.H and loved the ambience and the advertised rooms looked sumptious!
We were so excited, the sun was shining the staff were welcoming and we booked dinner in their lovely restaurant. We then went to our room 202 and oh dear , my heart sank. Small We hate to make a fuss and feel the actual cost shoild ensure a decent room. Our dinner was good but the size of the dover sole was half normal size. We travel all over the world and we chose here for our anniversary. Staff lovely but some very disappointing features. COULD DO MUCH BETTER.

My husband and I spent a night at the OGH for our wedding anniversary and we had a wonderful stay. Our room was amazing, huge and spacious and with lovely views over town and the other islands of Herm and Sark. The room was tastefully regal - complete with an extremely comfy 4 poster bed - yet it had all the modern amenities you would expect cleverfully hidden away. We loved the way you pressed a button and the TV appeared out of a bookcase!
We had come for a relaxing weekend so were able to make the most of the lovely spa facilities (and because the hotel is conveniently situated in the middle of the town centre we were able to go and buy a pair of bathers for my husband who forgot his!)
We were most impressed by the staff. Nothing was too much for them and they always addressed us by name - even if we hadn't met them before and been introduced - we have never come across this level of service in a hotel before!
We dined at the Governor Restaurant and really enjoyed the 'surprise' 7 course menu. - every course was delicious and extremely well presented.
We had a couple of really nice surprises - fruit and champagne in our room with a card congratulating us on our wedding anniversary, and I was given a present - a really lovely photo frame - when we went down for breakfast on mothers day. We thought they were really lovely touches which made our stay even more special.
For our honeymoon 5 years ago we treated ourselves to a stay at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York, where we had a lovely time, however we have both agreed that our stay at the OGH was much more impressive!
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the OGH to family and friends.

Fabulous hotel, great food, great location and courteous staff. We only stayed for a couple of days but wish it could have been longer. Will definitely return to this hotel - already planning the next trip.

I stayed for 4 nights from 30th June with my Wife, Aunty and Uncle who had recently celebrated his 75th birthday. Our Aunty has mobility issues so she travelled with her wheelchair although usually uses it only infrequently. Following our flight she was suffering and depended on her wheelchair during our stay. We stayed in rooms 201 and 211. Aunty and Uncle were moved to room 211 after the initial room allocated was considered unsuitable for her. This was undertaken with the minimum of fuss. My fault entirely as I had only briefly discussed wheelchair accessability at time of booking expecting Aunty to be walking far more than she actually did.
I have to say the hotel was faultless from the excellent staff to the quality of the food. Someone at the hotel has recruitment and training spot on. The staff were more than happy to help , often anticipating your request. They could not have been more kinder and helpful to our Aunty. It would be very easy to pick out individuals for praise but that would be based on dealing with them on a more frequent basis. Even members of staff we interacted with only on the odd occassion exhibited the same high standards.
From our experience I would be so bold as to say that if you do not have a perfect holiday stay, then the fault will not be down to the team at the Old Government House.

We have visited Guernsey many times to see our son who lives there but this was our first stay at the OGH for 3 nights. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are very friendly. We were in Room 106, which was very spacious and clean but has a small bathroom with a shower over the bath. It is on the swimming pool level which was very convenient. The pool was lovely. Problem was that shower head angle couldn't be altered and water was directed onto taps making it very unpleasant experience. We complained about this immediately but nothing was done. Also bath had a damage in it which had been badly repaired and filled, which was mouldy. I would have expected better maintenance in a hotel of this standard.

We went for a 4 night stay as a special treat. The staff throughout were lovely but having booked a sea view room with balcony , I rejected it as the double glazing had blown and one could not see out, there was rubbish on the floor, the silk wall covering was torn in some places and faded in others and the mirrors were covered with smears. We were offered another smaller darker room with no shower which I rejected and finally offered a small suite which we accepted after refusing to pay extra. Housekeeping was totally chaotic, all the hotel’s room keys were left on a sofa one day, cups were not washed up, toiletries replaced some days but not others. Breakfast was good although not with an extensive choice and some
items were persistently unavailable despite remaining on the menu. Not what I would have expected from a five star hotel. Not good value for money as it is very expensive.

We went over to Guernsey for the first time in April with friends on a 3 night for price of 2 deal
and were delighted with the newly refurbished rooms overlooking the bay. The hotel has 3stars but when all the rooms are refurbished will certainly deserve an extra star.
We ate the first night in the hotel £22 for four courses including coffee and can honestly say that the food probably the best we have ever had in a hotel. Beautifully cooked and presented to a very high standard. The wine list was very reasonable and with a fine selection of wines to choose from. We ate out the next night but returned to the hotel for our final evening's meal and finished our holiday by having a 3 course lunch for £12. We think that you would be hard pushed to find anywhere better to eat in St Peters Port. Breakfasts were to an equally high standard. There is a cosy lounge and bar and huge sun terrace to relax with a drink or two in the evening. If you are a keen swimmer and go on holiday out of season there is a large indoor pool within a few minutes walk of the hotel.
We would certainly go back to the hotel, maybe for a summer or autumn break and cannot recommend it too highly especially a 3 for 2 night deal.
The staff at the hotel were very friendly and could not do enough to help.
