During our visit to Jersey we bumped into a guy who is a scallop diver and supplies the local area with fresh scallops. He recommended this restaurant to us for their fresh sea food. We couldn't turn down a story like that and so we booked a table. Of course we ordered the scallops, which were not a disappointment. The whole meal was excellent, including flavors and recipes you certainly don't get in our local restaurants back home. The wife ordered a burnt dark chocolate desert with garlic ice cream. Not something I would attempt to cook at home, but it was real winner. The ambiance in the restaurant is very chilled and light, the staff equally chilled and light. We ordered a starter and desert each (strange I know), plus wine. The bill came to about £25 each, a bargain for the quality of the evening.

We found the Bass and Lobster by accident on the first night of our 4 night stay..wow, talk about happy accidents! We were amazed that the price was so reasonable considering the quality and the ethos of using fresh and local ingredients. We were looked after and warmly welcomed by Anna and ordered from the set menu on the first night ( Thursday) 2 courses for under £20.00, we shared a starter, had a main each and shared the sweet. After ordering fresh home made daily bread and butter arrived at our table and after one taste I knew this would be very special indeed. I cant ever remember having such a wonderful, tasty and fresh meal, every element was careful considered and made completely from scratch..including the lemon mayonaise and salsa verde on the fishcake starter - delish!! I had the lamb and new Jersey pots and hubby had the fish and chips - Wow! My husband was also blown away and we couldnt help but taste and try all the elements of each others dishes. Bread and butter pudding and home made apricot ice cream to finish..and my mouth is watering thinking about it!!
I woke up the next morning and was thinking about what I could choose off the menu that night. We turned up that night without booking and looking less than glamorous after a tough day walking on the North coast and Anna found us a table and greeted us like old friends. That night we both had to try the 'Stinky bay burger' again attention to details rules with the quality meat, home made bacon jam and own smoked cheese, We had the whitebait and pea and wild garlic soup as starters. But no room for dessert! Again a wonderful meal, lovely atmosphere and such lovely staff. We loved watching the chefs from our table, they looked so passionate and diligent
On our next night - Saturday, we booked a table as there was no way we were missing out! We looked forward to the meal all day after a good days walking and touring the Island. We didnt eat all day...there was no way I was missing out on dessert! Again another amazing night, outstanding food, and atmosphere...and the dessert, Chocolate, salted caramel, bitter orange tart with wild garlic ice cream...it should work..but my god it does!
Thanks so much to Anna and the team for wonderful food, taste experiences and lovely holiday memories, we will see you again..we are checking out the flights!

This is the 2nd time I have been this year and loved the 5* treatment! The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Such a pleasant stay and hope to make it a third time very soon.

This currently has 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor, but I think this is overly generous. We visited stayed at this hotel for 1 night, and 2 nights at Le Friquet a couple of miles away. Le Friquet (which also has 4.5 TA stars) is much superior.

The room we had in the Duke of Richmond was a bit drab and dated. Apparently there are refurbished rooms available but we told the charge would be £20 extra, and what we paid wasn't exactly cheap. The bed was fine and reasonably large, but the bathroom was dingy and quite unattractive. The TV was the size of a large postage stamp.

We dined at the hotel and the food was very good. In fact, the dining room was airy, nicely set out and the staff very friendly. But it was a fair bit more expensive than the food at Le Friquet and not so much choice.

The location of the hotel is at the top of a hill about 0.75 miles (10 minute walk to town; 20 minute walk back!) from the centre of town, and really difficult to find by car. We went round in circles for 20 minutes before we asked for directions.

Overall, we were a bit disappointed after staying at Le Friquet, which was cheaper but better quality.

It's cleanliness, excellent service, excellent cuisine lead to a thoroughly enjoyable break in Guernsey.

We were a group of over 60 people, with varing needs and the hotel responded excellently to our requests while remaining friendly and welcoming and professional.

Stayed at this hotel as a business person. Location is brilliant.
Found the Public areas rather Old Fashioned.
Room was ok and clean. Stayed in many hotels and think hotel is over
overpriced. Found hotel Staff ok, but at times not genuine.
I felt like I was just being processed. Also member of hotel staff was
pressure washing terrace area at 730.am !
Rather a mixed bag. Better hotels on the islands and for the Price.
Some of the Staff seemed pompous!

We were on a short 3 night break and found the staff here lovely (especially Olga at breakfast and Orlando in the bar). We did not like the location of our allocated room as it was roadside and a little noisy. The Reception team did not hesitate in moving us to a room overlooking the terrace and sea. Breakfasts were superb. It was an easy stroll into town. Would certainly stay here again if in St Peter Port.

What a gem we found in Guernsey, From the minute we arrived, until we had to depart, we received outstanding service from all the staff we came in to contact with. Nothing seemed to much trouble for any of the staff, the ambiance and all round comfort of the hotel made this an outstanding weekend away, and one that will stay long in the memory.
Our room was comfortable and contained everything you could need during your stay, although it overlooked the road, we didnt hear any traffic noise, even with the windows open.
We ate in the bar on our first evening, the menu, service, and food were excellent, the bill was even pleasent !!
I have to point out that the service on both mornings in the restaurant was superb, the hotel was busy, but the service and speed of service, quality of food and attention to detail, would have put many 5 star establishments to shame.

The top feature of this hotel is the excellent restaurant service which would rival that of many high class hotels. The head waiter was charming. The head waitress is outstanding and leads her team very well -all incredibly polite and attentive. The restaurant food is extremely good too with a good table d'hote menu each night and some really exceptionally good dishes. Breakfast is cooked to order and there is an excellent continental buffet too.

The room was fine - pristine in terms of furnishings and cleanliness. The bathroom was also pristine. The fittings are somewhat dated - ie a bath with old type over- bath shower attachment and plastic curtain but it all worked perfectly well. I understand a programme of refurbishment is underway. I hope the refurbishment will include air conditioning or at least a fan. The room was uncomfortably hot during the night and this was with daytime temperatures outside of 16-20. I hope it will also address the sound proofing situation. Presumably because of the age of the doors and walls there was a problem with noise at night. Doors closing and footsteps along the corridor were all too audible in the room.

The hotel is situated in a lovely area (in fact St Peter Port does not seem to have any unlovely areas), opposite a park, just round the corner from the fantastic Art and History Museum and a pleasant 15-20 minute stroll from the restaurants and shopping area. Uphill on the way back so in the evenings we took a taxi back.

There is a very pleasant heated outdoor swimming pool. But a slight disincentive to evening use was the fact that one had to arrive and leave rather publicly through the terrace bar area! Even so I imagine it would be great for families.

Only problem was late (30 minutes) delivery of room service breakfast on Sunday, our last day before leaving for our flight. Not ideal. This was apparently due to the number requiring breakfast half an hour before the restaurant opened (8am). If this is a regular occurrence they should perhaps consider opening the restaurant at the same time as the other days (7.30). But maybe we were just unlucky.

This was a lovely hotel, impeccably kept with solid old fashioned values and service. Long may it continue.
