If you're a fan of quirky and unusual places like me, you will love the highly recommended and established Duke of Richmond Hotel. The hotel's Africa safari theme, exquisite selection of furniture and lighting, and tastefully decorated rooms make it a wonderful place to stay during your visit to Guernsey. Staff are polite and attentive, bar has a broad selection of drinks that you can enjoy either inside or on the beautiful terraces. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of the main harbour, bars and restaurants.

A friend and I went away for a long weekend, to celebrate our birthdays. I booked the hotel and have to say they were just wonderful. Every interaction I had with the hotel prior to our stay, and during, was excellent. The staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Our room was beautiful, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We had a sea view and a lovely balcony. We also booked afternoon tea for the day we arrived, and it was wonderful. Knowing we were there celebrating birthdays, the staff gave us a lovely card and a plate of extra deserts (all of our favourite treats from the afternoon tea selection!). I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough. The breakfast each morning was delicious, and freshly cooked. The location of the hotel is up quite a steep hill (St Peter Port is essentially a big hill!), which provided beautiful views on the way up and down, and a nice bit of exercise.

I only have the slightest of criticisms; my friend found the towel rail in the bathroom to be too hot - she reached out and touched it, not realising it would be so hot, and burned her hand (very slightly). I'd be inclined to agree that it was too hot. It made the bathroom very warm indeed, which was uncomfortable during a warm period of weather. There was a lot of light spilling in underneath the door, at night, which disturbed me, a light sleeper, but I soon resolved that with a blanket at the foot of the door.

Overall, though, I'd highly recommend this hotel. Really wonderful.

Great hotel in all areas! Our room was huge, clean and comfortable and staff members were friendly, attentive and helpful. There’s a lovely pool area with warm water and plenty of guest towels and there are nice touches like sweets and board games in the reception area. The décor is quite different to the usual bland chains but it all adds to the hotel’s appeal!

Breakfast was fab – full English, omelettes/choice of eggs, smoked salmon, kippers, pastries, fresh bread, ham, cheese, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt - not really sure what else could be expected for breakfast?! The deluxe afternoon tea is delicious if a little too large but staff members are happy to box-up any left-over cakes!

Much of St Peter Port is on a hill so the walk back to the hotel from the seafront is sometimes steep but this has the added advantage of great views – particularly if you walk through Candie Gardens.

I’ve paid a lot more for far less in the past and really think the Duke of Richmond delivers great value for money – we’ll be back!

This recently renovated hotel is a great choice if staying in St Peter Port. The lobby and bar area have been decorated superbly and the staff are very friendly. Room was a good size and although a little 'quirky' the bedroom have been decorated very well. A highlight was the excellent breakfast with quick service and a good selection. If you have meetings or dinner in town - its a good hike back up the hill. Would definitely stay here again.

Guernsey is a wonderful, inviting island with great food, engaging people, and interesting sites. A hotel should reflect the local aesthetic and The Old Government House Hotel does so perfectly.

The lobby of the hotel is small but inviting. There is coffee in the morning and fruit all day long. The restaurants are superb. Breakfast is delicious and the restaurant inviting. The numerous bars are cosy with excellent cocktails. High tea is a treat.

The outdoor pool is well kept and warmer than most pools any English town. The spa is beautiful and well kept.

The staff is helpful beyond what is expected from a 5 star hotel. From valet parking to restaurant reservations to cleaning staff, there was never a misstep. Knowledgable and friendly, staff truly make you feel at home.

The rooms are well kept and clean. Although my room was not overly large, it had a great view of the harbor. There is a great supply of tea and coffee with cookies and bottled water. The bathroom is large and well stocked. My only complaint would be that the shower was a tad tight. Hard to turn around in it. The bathtub, on the other hand, was more than ample.

Internet was fast and reliable. The TV (hardly used) had a great choice of channels. The location is outstanding. Just a block away from the hubbub yet a stone's throw from anywhere you'd want to be.

By all means, if you can afford it, choose this hotel above all others in Guernsey.

An historic top notch hotel located in the center of St Peter Port a few minutes walk up the hill from the harbour. High quality service makes the OGH the best hotel in town. Location is reasonable quite. Good restaurant.

We recently stayed three nights at the OGH Hotel and it would be one of the nicest hotels I have stayed at. The rooms are spacious, with two arm chairs to sit in and the bathroom had a separate bath and shower. The room was well air-conditioned and the wifi was free and of good quality.

There would be rooms in the hotel that have harbour views, but we were not in one. The hotel has a number of quiet rooms to have a drink in. Breakfast was served in a conservatory overlooking the pool area, we ate breakfast outside in the garden, very pleasant. The ambience of the hotel is one that makes you feel very special, without the staff being stand offish or remote, in fact they are very friendly. There is a lift for those who find stairs difficult.

The hotel is located on a hill quite close to the shopping precinct, and just below the Candie Gardens and museum.

We stayed in a superior sea view room with balcony and it lived up to our expectation. The room was spacious with furnishing to match the hotel including a large and comfy bed but we enjoyed the balcony the most with a super view over the town and harbour. The breakfasts were excellent with an extensive choice and lovely surroundings. We did not have the evening meals in the hotel as there were some lovely places to eat in town. I can confirm that we found all the staff friendly and helpful.

This is Guernsey’s only 5 star hotel and it feels like it. In the centre of St Peter Port with great views over the harbour is is fabulously located. The staff cannot do enough for you and the service is excellent from all departments. The food in the brasserie is also excellent…we didn’t eat in the Indian restaurant in the hotel so can’t pass comment on that. But the attitude of the hotel is summed up by a phase on the brasserie menu that announces (sic) that if there is nothing on the menu to whet your appetite then the reader is invited to ask for what he/she would like and the hotel will do its best to deliver. To that point, it might be worthwhile having more than one daily special to offer more than just a special fish option on the brasserie menu
We stayed there in July for 5 days along with our 25 year old son who we had taken to the same hotel as his first holiday nearly 25 years ago. In 1990 it was a hotel that looked as if it was trading on former glories and was in need of a make-over. And a makeover it has clearly had. Great Spa and Gym, cosy outside pool, comfortable lounges and bars and a very pleasant garden area make it a very nice place to be when the sun is shining and the sky is blue.
Our only ‘area for development’ would be related to the size of some of the rooms which can be described as very well equipped but ‘cosy’
We were all very sorry to leave and will definitely go back.
