One of the best hotels I've ever stayed. I usually never stay in luxury hotels but the fact that my company allocated me at The Duke was a great pleasure.
The staff was great and really knew how to offer the service you would expect.
Breakfast and dinner were fantastic and of great quality and variation. Must stay when in Guernsey!

From the friendly greeting on arrival to the spacipus and excellently pointed room this is a must stay and we certainly hope to return The decor is bold and clearly from the designer collection and the breakfast is really excellent, served in a stunning conservatory which sits above the pool area Just a short walk to town and with everything you want in a room it was one of the highlights of our holiday

The hotel is about 10mins walk up the hill from St Peter Port. It can be quite physical for some. On arrival we were told that parking is limited and may have to find on-street parking nearby. We were upgraded to a King room which was very nicely decorated as with all the rooms there. Room is on the small end of spectrum. It has air-conditioning and the usual 4-star equipment (kettle, hairdryer, slippers). The only issue is it does not have a fridge. Bathroom is modern and shower is hot with good pressure. Breakfast was included in the package - it composes of continental breakfast and you could also on top have a full English breakfast, omelette, or waffle/pancake (both of which I don't recommend). So lots of choices for the first meal but the quality is not spectacular. Staff were really nice and professional. Overall it is a classic, nicely decorated hotel.

We chose this hotel because of the reviews on trip advisor and were not disappointed. The room was a decent size at the front of the hotel with no street noise.
The staff were all very good, friendly and made our stay. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast, we had dinner twice, something we rarely do at hotels, so it must be good.
The hotel is about a 10 Minute walk into town, the walk back is all uphill but did not bother us.
Would highly recommend this hotel.

My wife & I checked into "The Duke" for one night, with dinner, an upgraded room (the Duchess Suite) and breakfast included, for our 1st wedding anniversary. What a weekend! Excellent service, marshalled brilliantly by Orlando & his wife Olga. Superb facilities. Would we repeat next year? Certainly.

The quality of service at the OGH is just amazing, the staff is friendly and always try to anticipate your needs in a non-intrusive way.

With the booking confirmation I received a form to write our preferences for the room (pillows, need a DVD player etc...). It turned out that my daughter had brought some DVDs and I hadn't requested a DVD player, I called the concierge to ask if we still could have one, not only it was installed in the room 10mn later but the concierge sent us complementary pop corn.

The Brasserie restaurant serves very good food and the bar has an immense choice of fine alcohol.

We will go back.

We have just returned from a weekend at The OGH for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, to the moment we dropped off, we were treated with courtesy and kindness. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff, from reception to the young boys who looked after us at the pool were charming and attentive.
We enjoyed wonderful food, from the delicious breakfast to terrific sandwiches in The Crown Tavern and a memorable dinner in The Brasserie. The morning of our Anniversary we had a really special champagne breakfast and as a surprise they even cooked my husband's favorite deviled kidneys.
We were really sad to leave and cannot thank them enough for making our anniversary so memorable.

Just leaving Guernsey and Old Government Hotel where we have enjoyed a luxurious week. Everything about it from start to finish was excellent. The staff are excellent, nothing was too much trouble. The food superb, breakfast a relaxed leisurely affair with an excellent choice of foods. The facilities were fantastic and we enjoyed using the gym, the spa and the pool where the staff were extremely attentive and very helpful. The whole experience is highly recommended.

This hotel is an experience and a real 5 star unlike some which purport to be. The initial welcome was friendly but professional. I liked the way one could easily talk to staff. No member of staff passed us without acknowledging us. Personally, I like that. We were 4 couples and all had great rooms. The hotel is a maze of corridors and due to its age they are several bedrooms up lots of stairs. This was fine for us although I did feel a little sorry for the porters when carrying luggage. If you need a room without stairs to climb, I have been assured by management that there are some reachable by lift so do not let this put you off a great experience.
The facilities at the hotel are great- spa, outdoor swimming pool in beautiful surroundings, several bars and dining areas. During the afternoons it was lovely to see so many people ( not necessarily staying guests) taking afternoon tea. Looked delicious. Breakfast was too. We would most certainly recommend this hotel without reservation and hope one day to return.
