Great hotel service and location, nothing was too much trouble and amazing breakfast. Special thanks to reception, as we made a mistake with our booking and they still squeezed us in and even gave us an upgrade. Faultless and a great bank holiday venue.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights last weekend. First impressions were of a very well kept and well run hotel. Our first night was spent in a double room (having asked for a king size on the online booking form) which was very small for a hotel of this size and we were at the start of a corridor so were disturbed by people coming and going. Then at 3 in the morning some guests decided to finish their evening outside in the garden, directly under our room. So very little sleep and a visit to the reception the next day to ask to move rooms. I also pointed out that we should have had a king size room as per the booking form but was told this was just a request not a given! The receptionist initially offered to move us at an extra cost but having already spent a great deal of money on the room I declined at which point she offered to "comp" us the upgrade - I still think it is what we should have had in the first place but either way we packed up our belongings and the hotel moved them into a much quieter, bigger room with a King size bed as requested, tucked away right by the gardens and swimming pool.
The gardens and pool are lovely and secluded and the pool is heated.
We only had breakfast in the hotel but it was fabulous, great selection, well presented and the dining room looks out across the port.
The valet parking was a bonus as the car park is very tight to get in and out of but our car appeared each time we needed it within minutes.
The gym is packed with equipment and the staff in there very friendly and accommodating.
I used the Spa twice for different treatments and it was lovely and relaxing to the point where I fell asleep during my facial!!
All in all a lovely hotel, great staff, great position in the town and I would recommend a stay to all (just go for a room bigger than a standard double).

My wife and I have just returned from Guernsey visiting friends. We were advised that the Old Government House or OGH as it is known was the best hotel on the island. They were not wrong. It is a true delight, elegant and beautifully presented and the service could not be bettered. It has all the amenities that you would wish including a gym, spa and an outdoor swimming pool. The bars are elegant and it is worth noting the most excellent cocktails made by Giuseppe. The moment you enter the hotel you are made to feel at home and I compliment Maria on her most excellent service. We intend to return to Guernsey once a year I will make sure that we are booked into the OGH.

We have been visiting with our family for the last 5 years, it continues to excel in every aspect.
We have a young family of 4 children ranging from 6 weeks to 7 years.we are well travelled and have been to some of the world and UK's best hotel, for example Gleneagles, Scotland. OGH is arguably one of them, with its own special way.
We continue to return several times per year, each year just gets better.
All the staff make us feel welcome, especially Ken going the extra mile- thank you.
Food, atmosphere , accommodation and views fantastic. The children are made so welcome, and make's it feel home from home.
A hidden gem!
Thank you for making our holidays so special

My partner and I spent five nights here and we both agreed that it is one of the best hotels we have stayed in.

The decor is immaculate, the staff extremely friendly and attentive, and the housekeeping efficient.

We enjoyed all the meals we had at the hotel (particularly the Indian on the Sunday night when most other restaurants on the island are closed, and the afternoon cream tea), and service was always exemplary.

We made good use of the pool (clean and very warm) and the jacuzzis in the small but well-maintained Spa.

The location is hard to beat, just a few minutes walk away from the town with plenty of shopping and sightseeing opportunities. We didn't need a car for the whole of our stay, apart from taxi's to and from the airport. Highly recommend the short ferry trip to beautiful Herm Island which can be seen from the hotel.

As the hotel is built on one of Guernsey's many steep slopes, there are several floors and flights of steps to navigate throughout various areas of the building. There is a lift provided for part of the building, so if you have any mobility concerns you may wish to check first if your room is easily accessible (my partner had recently had a knee operation and I wished we had checked as our room was at the very top of the hotel with four flights of stairs to navigate!).

Apart from that, my only minor criticism is that from our room it was hard to find a discreet way to access the outdoor pool without having to walk through the hotel dining areas and past other guests whilst wearing a robe (we did find a way into the hotel directly from the pool, but it was via several accommodation corridors and wasn't signposted from within the hotel). If there were changing areas by the pool, we didn't see them but it would have been nice to feel a little less conspicuous!

We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone considering a relaxing break in Guernsey, and will be investigating other Red Carnation hotels to try elsewhere.

We stayed at the Duke of Richmond for 4 nights & it was wonderful.
The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the town, but you do need to be quite fit as it is all uphill going back to the hotel.
There is a lovely seated area overlooking the sea where you can enjoy a cocktail or a cup of tea.

The staff were friendly & very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.
The food was excellent.
We would definitely stay again.

My late fostee dad Peter Bale worked here as a night porter when I was living with him, my foster mum Lilian and my foster siblings in the nineties. He showed me round the hotel one day and it is stunning.

We stayed here one night on a day trip to Guernsey and will definitely be back. The staff were great - responsive, helpful and friendly. The room was absolutely perfect - very clean, very comfortable and no complaints at all. We're already planning a return trip
