Well, on our first visit to Jersey how lucky we were to find this gem! The roast pheasant with duck liver was perfection as were all the sides, starters and my partner's roast beef. Perfectly finished with a melt in the mouth blueberry millefuielle.

Great location for a stay in Guernsey, walking distance to the town and harbour. Rooms very comfortable with excellent bathroom and very clean - good room service. However, I would NOT recommend eating dinner in the restaurant, service was appalling the first night we arrived, 1.5 hrs with no food, not even bread basket and when the food arrived it was just about edible, I certainly didn't enjoy my meal - however breakfast the following morning was very good.

Two nights in Guernsey, a good online package. Excited to stay at the DoR, since we've stayed at one other Red Carnation venue, and loved it.

Room: we hadn't gone for any upgrades, so got the smallest room size. And it is small - but beautifully decorated. There isn't any real room to put stuff out - you keep having to move things from the desk to the tiny table, to the bed-top, to the chair. But lovely linens, and spotlessly clean.

Food & drink: Cooked breakfast included. Nice quality. The buffet offering is adequate. Bar is opulent without being particularly comfy & relaxing. Service is a bit laid-back, often requiring a trip up to the bar to order, despite there being no other guests in the bar.

Car Parking: As mentioned elsewhere, having only 5 parking spaces for a hotel this size is not great. An anxious first few hours trying to keep an eye on the car park whilst nipping out to update the parking disc.

Location: it really is at the top of the town. If you are in any way unfit (er, like me), it is a VERY steep climb!

So - very pleasant stay, but not sure we'd rush back.

the duke of richmond maynot be the biggest hotel on the island, but to our mind its the best from it fantastic decor, great food, soft beds you can get lost in,wine is surprisingly inexpensive, then theres the staff, well not staff but new friends looking out for your every need, and not at all stuffy,It has the quality of the best and a feeling of coming home as the owners say when contacting you "its your home away from home"

We didn't stay in this hotel just had tea!

We had a room separated for our large group to cater a magnificent tea service: had champaign, lovely teas, great sandwiches, scones and pastries. Absolutely delightful!
Service was impecable at all times.

Lovely stay with them for a private family party. A wedding was on the same time but the hotel didn't make us feel second rate.
The room was a little cramped as there was 2 chairs at the foot of our bed but that's my only minor nitpick.
The staff were very attentive and the heated pool was an addition I didn't expect but made through use of during my stay.
I'd left my tripod under the bed and they organised a swift return as soon as I contacted them.

Had a fantastic 5 nights here, primarily down to the friendly, helpful and cheerful staff and the comfort, size and view of the room. (King size, sea view with balcony). Would definitely select this room grade again on any return visit.

It was our wedding anniversary, during our stay, and a card and personalised cake selection was left in our room. Thank you, a lovely touch. Mind you, please check your spelling of anniversary 😄.

Our room was large and very comfy. Huge, comfy bed and large TV. (Never had a sanitised remote before!). In-room air conditioning works really well. In-room fridge is useful. The complimentary biscuits are delicious. Good choice of teas, but better instant coffee would be appreciated.

Housekeeping is excellent; the twice a day service is very efficient and effective. Great turndown service.

The complimentary daily local paper is a great idea.

Good breakfast; great choice and serving times. The (single) chef is excellent - don't know how he does it.

There are some negatives however, (learning points), but many of which the hotel can do little about.

- The balconies look out over the outdoor dining area where events are held. Fortunately, there wasn't one on during our visit, but I think noise could be a real issue.

- Balconies on each floor are on the same level, so you look directly at your neighbours; screens would be good.

- The restaurant extractor fans run all day from 6am to late. They are very noisy even with the double glazing shut, let alone when you're sat on the balcony.

- The rear of the building is quite ugly to look at when sat outside. The outdoor area by the wall is a little unsightly and used to store the BBQ and function equipment etc.

- Breakfast service can be slow (although always cheery) and the smoked haddock was very boney on each occasion I had it. However, the 'full English' is huge and perfect.

- light bulb in our bathroom not fixed despite notification to reception.

- the hotel bar / restaurant waiting area is far too small. The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere. It's decoration is muddled and we found chewing gum under one of our tables.

- we had to request fresh milk for the room every day. This always came quickly, but good hotels tend to restock this automatically for the duration of stay once it's been requested the first time.

However, this is a 5 star review without doubt. Thank you for a great time.

I've stayed in many hotels over the years but this is the best one I've ever stayed in !
Myself and my daughter stayed for 6 days and we had such an amazing time.
The food was excellent value, delicious and beautifully presented.
The service from every single staff member was over and above the standard in so many ways - from the lovely Aaron who is super friendly and helpful ( a hotel manager in the making !) to the fabulous lady on reception who took care of my parking ticket for me, and the chefs in the kitchen who produce such amazing food.
The atmosphere in the hotel is very relaxed and friendly , with funky decor and lovely touches like massive jars of sweeties (free!!) in reception.
I honestly can't recommend it highly enough, and we look forward to returning very soon !!
Thanks so much to everyone at the hotel for a truly fantastic stay !!

What a wonderful hotel, from the moment you step through the door to the end of your visit. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The rooms are all to an extremely high standard with wonderful decor. Lots of places to sit in the lounge area or garden. It's very nostalgic and is like stepping back in time. Would definitely recommend and return.
