Just returned after a four night stay at the OGH.
What a fantastic stay ideally located to visit the town.
From the moment you walk through the front door the experience begins with a glass of bubbly to start you stay,a guided tour of the hotel and then to your very comfortable room.
The staff are very friendly and absolutely nothing is to much trouble to make your stay a very memorable one.
The food is very good with a good range of meals and snacks and really no need to eat outside the hotel.
This is a 5 star hotel and I can clearly see why.

Stayed before four times before and returned back today, after one night stay Jaro Opletal is amazing and you get a brilliant welcome. I have visited many Channel Island hotels and the lady that welcomed me was amazing on Reception. Old Government House Hotel stands out from the other hotels as it's just not a process they do believe in Service. At the heart of St Peter Port and a very historic hotel. This hotel is not any ordinary chain hotel and stands out from the rest. Building is old and rooms may be small depending on what room you choose, but the Service soon makes up that.
Jaro Opletal and reception team set great standards even for the single traveller like me.
If your travelling to Channel Islands or to Guernsey this hotel is a must. I did visit this hotel before it became a Red Carnation Hotel, and standards have increased.Don't Expect a bland experince.

Just beautiful. Impeccable service. Breakfast was also excellent with great variety. The pool area is quite small but we got sun loungers after a short wait. The hotel is also in a perfect location. Would highly recommend

Smoked salmon sandwich was delicious! Sadly forgot the tea strainers for our teas! Easily sorted. Good service, great surroundings and very central! Top quality Red Carnation hotel in St Peter Port. Outdoor heated pool too!

We stayed for a week in July. Very nice hotel quite close to the centre of St Peter Port. It's less impressive looking in real life than the images we had simply because you turn a corner onto what looks like a small road and there it is, sitting calmly on the left hand side of the road!
Breakfast was good, friendly staff. The bar was nice, easy to sit outside in the sun (there are several bars scattered around) and the pool usually had space (and drinks service) in the afternoon. It's been a hotel for a long time but we found the room numbering a little confusing (or at least I did).
The Curry Room restaurant was really excellent the evening we dined there - book a bit ahead as it's not that big, but definitely worth it.
We had a very nice view of the sea and the town from our room, which was quite spacious, lucky that the weather was very good.
Beware the concierge - who told me confidently that checkin for Alderney was 60 minutes (it's 30), luckily we checked elsewhere or we'd have been up early!
Definitely a very nice and relaxing place to stay, clearly a lot of repeat visitors so they are clearly doing something right to make people want to come back.

Just back from a weekend break to Guernsey with my father, brother and sister. So glad we chose the OGH - beautiful hotel and lovely food but the staff were unsurpassable! Everyone we came in to contact with was unfailingly friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Genuine welcomes in the reception, bar and restaurant and all so helpful to my mobility challenged father. Thoroughly recommend and hope to visit again before too long

The place to stay for top accomodation, good food but above all the best and most attentive service you could wish for. Every member of staff goes the extra mile. Expensive but worth every penny: gold standard hotel.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at OGH.

For our stay (end of August), we paid £650 for the 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

The good: mainly very good service. Breakfast was high quality and served in the brasserie which is a pleasant setting. Bar and lounge also very nice. The pool area was smart and kept clean and tidy. The staff was polite and helpful. Nice turndown service every evening.

The less good: our room was a standard double. It was tiny. It just fitted the king size bed and there was hardly room for anything else. The decor was tired, as was the furniture and the mattress. Had we booked a suite, I’m sure the room would have been larger and more expensively appointee, but at c. £400/night for a junior suite, this is extremely expensive.

Red Carnation Hotels take note: although you appear to receive almost universal excellent and very good reviews of this hotel, you need to spend some money on the hotel and update the rooms and the furnishings. They are tired and the room we had was pokey. Although the service and food was good, we very much felt the room was very poor given how much we paid, and for this alone I do not think this hotel deserves its 5 stars. To be fair, the receptionist was apologetic about our room, and of course it is not within her gift to do much about it.

Would we stay again? At the prices charged, probably not.

This was a very special holiday of five nights in total to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We booked a classic room and were made welcome from the first greeting on the steps as we arrived, to the final farewell from the lovely reception team. Our room, although it didn't have the best view, was comfortable, stylish, spotlessly clean and inviting. We can't possibly name every member of staff as they were all exceptional but we recall Gareth Byrne who was particularly welcoming and easy to talk to. We thank all the staff for their kind services and the little extras that added to our stay. This was our first stay at OGH and we did not want to leave! We hope to return, thank you all so much.
