We live in Hartest and come here at least once a week. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and the food is excellent. They rotate the menu frequently as well which is great for regulars like us. They always accommodate the little ones and have a toy chest inside and play area and huge lawn outside. The beer is always good and fresh; my only criticism is that they don't have guest ales and don't rotate their own so the beer options are always the same. Luckily the Brewshed beers are very good, but I'd like to see more variation.

What we like about The Crown is the lovely service that Fiona and Lucy provide. Always cheerful and friendly, nothing seems to be too much trouble. The paneled front room with the big windows is particularly warm and comfortable. Even when the tables are full it doesn't seem crowded. The food is always well-prepared and tasty. The best pudding by a long chalk is the apple custard crumble fool - melt in your mouth and gone in a trice.

I eat at the Crown often and the food is a very high standard of quality. I'd nightly recommend going to the restaurant on a Wednesday as they do a fantastic deal where you buy a starter and main and get the dessert free- now this doesn't sound as impressive as it is, with the desserts you choose from a selection of ten and choose five. I was expecting the portion sizes to be rather small due to the fact I'd had a started and main (and the delicious cracking and apple sauce!) but the portions for the five desserts where regular/large sizes which I found rather overwhelming,
I ate a bit of each and can confirm the were absolutely delicious but wasn't able to finish so took a doggy bag home. I spoke to one of the fantastic waitresses and asked why the portion sizes were so huge and she explained that they wanted to give customers the chance to try the dessert menu. My only criticism would be to make the desserts slightly smaller as it's quite overwhelming, and after two other courses. The rice pudding is so delicious!I've also been to the crown and found that the burger was rather greasy with rather poor presentation but apart from that it is my favourite place to eat. The roosts are immense!
Very well priced and the staff are excellent! There's a huge garden area and the pub is child/dog friendly. You get a lovely country vibe whilst there and they have a fantastic,
Thank you very much, I'm sure I will be back soon.

Not many people in there when we arrived on a Saturday lunch time so plenty of space. Food was good although the sauce in the prawn cocktail was a bit overpowering. Onion rings a bit fatty too. Apart from that it was ok.

We have been using this pub for meals and family celebrations for some 30 years, Im afraid even though the food is fair now days the prices certainly are not £9.50 for bangers and mash says it all!

Camping locally therefore visited The Crown with family and friends for an evening meal. Our selected foods ranged from brie & red pepper tart to scampi & chips & childrens fish & chips all of which were swimming in grease & overpriced (over £10.00 for fish & chips).
Although the Speckled Hen tasted O.K it was becoming cloudy but as I only had one pint I didnt bother complaining. The pub, garden & childrens play area is very good almost making up for the poor quality food.
Would I recommend this establishment, yes, only if you were having a soft drink & a sandwich.

The old landlord lost interest a couple of years back and the food and service had said as much. As the pub is local; the ambiance good and there's a lovely garden for all the family, I'd mistakenly given it many second chances. What a relief to find the new landlady has already overseen a new menu and the food was a joy to eat. I asked for a rib eye steak rare to medium rare and flamed on the outside and that is exactly what I got. The meat itself was excellent. The wife ordered a tuna salad but the chef personally apologised for the shortage of tuna and recommended swordfish instead ... an excellent suggestion.
