A lovely country theatre.

I frequent the bar regularly and enjoy the real ales and riverside terrace.

Plenty of variety in the shows in the auditorium along with frequent acoustic nights in the bar itself.

The new restaurant on the top floor is unbelievable quality!

I love this place! Interesting shows, music and plays, lovely staff, easy to get to, nice location and you can get food and drink here too. What's not to like.
The theatre is very intimate with only a hundred or so seats but that is one of the attractions for me. One band member performing there likened it to playing in someone's living room, which is not far off but it does allow for good interaction.
It's location on the river is lovely too, worth a look in daylight.

Bar, restaurant and theatre. Lots going on to suit all tastes throughout the year, right on the river. Small theatre which is tiered so everyone gets a good view.

A small and very friendly theatre on the banks of the River Stour mainly staffed by volunteers. Very worthwhile visit to see a performance up close and personal

We hadn't visited the Quay for years since our daughter was a child and into watching seasonal pantomime and to be blunt, in those days it was twee and provincial and not in a good way. It was amateur with a capital 'A', and its amateurishness was not just in it's performances on the stage but the entire set up.
Before anyone has a go at me, I appreciate they were doing their best. It was a small town operation, being run on a small budget mainly by volunteers...and I believe it still is.
Into the present I was reading the local paper, and noticed that a major singing artist from the West End was appearing at the Quay. My wife and I are both huge fans of musical theatre so we booked. The theatre has obviously had a major refurbishment over the last few years and it shows. The auditorium (while still small, the building dictates it couldn't be otherwise), has much more comfortable seating and seems more 'professional', good acoustic's too.
Even more impressive were the ticket office area, toilets, upstairs bar...everything. So much more professional, like the West End but on a much more intimate scale.
Looking at the programme of upcoming events it appears that the quality of acts at the theatre have improved too. Together with the pop up restaurant that appears to be in residence, this appears to be a venue on the up.
Only slight worry is I'm not sure their advertising is getting through to many local people, just their 'in crowd' of regulars. The singer we watched was excellent, played the lead in London's longest running musical for a year and the theatre was still a third empty.
That said, very good. We will be back much sooner than before.

We have been to the Quay on a number of occasions to the cinema, theatre, variety shows and history talks.
With the recently renewed seating and carpeting it is even more welcoming.
It is run by volunteers and is a fantastic local amenity.
If you can get tickets for the history talks or the reviews of local photography don't miss it.
There is also a super costume department where you can hire fancy dress costumes!

Been to the theatre a few times. A very small but friendly theatre. New seats have been put in and are a bit more comfortable. I live quite near, so not too far to travel.

We saw a play here, it is a small venue but that makes it all the better. You feel like you are among a group of friends. There is a bar and a highly recommended restaurant, which you have to book well in advance. You can book a table here without having to see any performance. The staff here are very friendly, and I believe they also do costume rentals for fancy dress parties. Plenty of parking and in a lovely position down by the river Stour and Sudbury water meadows.

With recent improvements to the building, car park and programme The Quay Theatre offers a diverse selection of events, acts and content for all the family. From local and national (and on occasion international) acts from Drama, Film, Live Cinema, Musicals, Christmas Panto's to Music Concerts to cater for all tastes. It is a small and cosy theatre seating over 125 places with a bar, gallery and balcony overlooking part of the River Stour. A lovely place to sit and relax whether you are about to watch a show or just a social drink or two. The venue now features Shilingford's Restaurant on the top floor, a 'wild food' pop up restaurant on Friday and Saturday nights for those who want a pre show meal, or just somewhere different to go and eat just on a weekend. I have not yet had the opportunity to experience its fare as yet as advanced booking is very much recommended.
