Well worth the walk from Foxton locks to the pub for lunch. The food is well presented, properly home cooked and really tasty. We had the steak sandwich with a pint; the meat was tender and cooked just as requested, the beer well kept. Highly recommended.

Recommend this Restaurant
Clean, bright,small areas with crisp white tablecloths and napkins. The home made Mushroom and Madeira soup with fresh bread and butter was superb. Two of us had braised lamb but I could have chosen at least two other dishes. The food was very well presented and delicious, service was quiet, friendly and professional. Very minor criticism- the tables are very close and difficult for those unsteady on their feet to manoeuvre round and sit comfortably, and a private conversation would be impossible.

We had intended to visit the nearby Foxton locks pub but as it was a nice day that was so busy we couldn't even park. A quick google showed this pub nearby and they were able to squeeze us in on the last table (group of 6, no booking, Sunday lunchtime) which we appreciated.
On the downside the wait staff were clearly overworked so food was a little slow and it was hard to get their attention for drinks. the bar had also run out of diet coke.On the upside the food made up for any other niggles - the homecooked chicken pies were particularly impressive - one friend (a long-term foodie) described them as "possibly the best pie I've ever eaten". I was very pelased with the delicious seafood risotto I chose and those who had Sunday lunch said the meat was excellent quality and perfectly cooked.

An impromptu visit on Good Friday, after a walk around Foxton locks, turned out to be a real find. The Black Horse has been done up since we were last here a couple of years ago. The interior is chic and welcoming. We just wanted a pint and a sarnie and we got the WOW factor... I can honestly say the food was delicious. I opted for the fish finger sandwich and the other half for the ham and cheese. All served on ciabatta with fresh home made chunky chips, slaw and salad... a more than ample serving. I can honestly say the best sarnies we’ve ever had. Super delicious, we will definitely be back 😃

Excellent, everything went perfectly, seated at table, drinks brought to table, food cooked superbly, hot , and good size portion. Waitress came around and asked if everything ok, also asked if we wanted more drinks, brilliant service. Lot of people in restaurant, but service was right, we did not have to wait a long time from order to food arriving at table. Recommend to all

We went for lunch on Easter Sunday, absolutely delicious food, home cooked and really tasty. Service was really good not overpowering like some locals. The five meals we ordered were enjoyed by all. Well done

The last time I had Tibetan momos was in Goa several years ago and I loved them so much I ate them greatly every night. So to have this local restaurant/takeaway what has one of my favourite foods, plus dishes from my favourite country (Nepal) is fantastic. It's very new and I've only had one meal from here but it was very delicious and the owner and staff were very friendly and welcoming. I'd highly recommend.
