This was a wonderful production thoroughly enjoyed by all my party. However I must mention a health and safety issue. There should be hand rails to help older and less nimble patrons to come down the steps to their seats.I myself felt very unsafe and one of my party actually fell. This should be addressed and I`m surprised it hasn`t been pointed out sooner.Apart from this issue the visit was a delight.

I've visited this theatre twice in the last year - To Kill A Mockingbird in Sept 2016 and Christmas Carol in November 2017. What a fab venue. It's small, spotlessly clean and intimate. The staff are friendly and the bar isn't a rip-off.

Central to Bolton and all transport links. Hope to be back soon!

A Christmas Carol was the show. Excellent cast that makes use of minimalistic scenery to entertain the audience with this iconic of tales.
This isn't a pantomime and perhaps, looking at the younger audience people misunderstood it to be.
The play was well delivered and have to state that the younger actors were exceptional, young people don't always get the praise they deserve.
A very diverse cast, Scrooge was well played and the narration to set the scenes were excellent. Good use of music and lighting. The stage being in the centre was new to me and I found it excellent.
The Theatre: In the city centre, 5 minutes walk from the train station. It is well presented with a good if not extensive, selection drinks available. There is a modest cake/coffee area on the lower level and selection of hot drinks, alcohol, sweets etc upstairs. Good toilet facilities (even though one door had a lock missing).
When booking beware that the seating area can change. The seat you thought was on the end of row could really be in the middle.
Really wonder at the logic of selling crisps in a theatre? Trying to catch the dialogue above the rustle and crunch of cheese and onion crisps is difficult.

We went with friends to see The Threepenny Opera last Friday night as my birthday treat and what a treat it was. The music was great, the acting was super and the combination held the audience enthralled. We go all the time, isn't it time you went.

We're not really fans of theatre but it was my sisters birthday and theatre was how she wanted to spend it. What a surprise and what a performance of The Three Penny Opera, 1 word, FANTASTIC.
The theatre is amazing, as are the buildings that surround it, well kept and spotlessly clean. Staff here were really friendly and obliging and couldn't do enough for you.
The play itself was fantastic, the cast were very talented with a mixture of saturical and sarcastic humour. All in all an excellent evening.

Went to watch Rita Sue and Bob 2 and was disappointed the actors where good and we had laugh but the props they used 4 old seats out of a car looked so pathetic I've seen better props at a school play .For how much we paid for the seats you expect it to be a bit better .

Been visiting for about 30 years and seen a variety of quality shows.
Staff, many volunteers are welcoming and love the theatre. All shows are highly professional with top actors. Many are regulars on tv.

Good if small restaurant. Bar serves local beers.

Good website. Have a look then book a show...you won't regret it.

The Octagon always puts on first class productions, attracting experienced actors. The front of house staff are very welcoming. There is a well stocked bar with good seating and smart cafe, serving snacks and main meals.

Went to see Cinderella back in January but left it late to book, best available slot left was a special showing aimed at children and groups, this performance was so great as it was a lot more interactive you actually felt a part of the show, and casting rats as the good guys! a fabulous twist, really made the show come alive. Been to the octagon a few times now always a cosy atmosphere rather than a large auditorium which feels more impersonal but this performance was just Wow!!

Excellent value for money. Pleasant service and reasonable choice of menu at the cafe attached to the theatre. Good coffee and generous portions - beware of the large soup it might defeat even the most determined diner.

We attended the Octagon last week and thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Talking Heads. However, our pre-theatre meal in the restaurant was of very variable quality. My own meal was acceptable, but my husband's chicken main was dried out of all recognition. He did complain to the waiter who collected his plate - but there was no response from management. We will continue to attend this excelllentt theatre, but won't eat there again.

I love the Octogan and regularly see performances. The quality of shows is incredible, and easily rivals some of the bigger theatres in the region.

It'd also worth noting that the Octogan has one of the best-stocked bars I've ever seen in a theatre. Wide choices of wine, beer and spirits, including gin!

A lovely intimate theatre which generally produces enjoyable, accessible plays without stooping to patronising the audience. The current production, Talking Heads' is first rate and well worth the admission fee.

It has been a while since visiting the theatre. The theatre space is intimate and you feel very close to the actors. The seats are comfortable with good leg room. There is good access to the higher floors with stairs and a lift. Th interior and common pars all feel a bit tired and is in need of being refreshed. New plans are afoot for widespread refurbishment. The bar area is quite large and reasonably staffed. While the cafe sells food during the day there is no significant food offering during or around the performance.

I have enjoyed every performance this season (to date!) at the Octagon Theatre. Each performance has offered something very different and 'I Capture the Castle' was spectacular. Very clever musical adaptation of Dodie Smith's classical novel - don't miss it!

Wow went yesterday to see a new British musical called I Capture the Castle, original by Dodie Smith. What a fantastic show. The singing was phenominal, made all the more better by the excellent sound quality at this little gem of a theatre. I've been a few times to this theatre and always enjoyed the different productions. All the staff are very welcoming and knowledgeable. The cafe on site is excellent too, with great choice of homemade food.

This review is a little late.....we watched Cinderella at the Octagon...I was taking my daughter who is severely disabled so was a little apprehensive as her behaviour can be a little 'quirky'...she uses a wheelchair as there were no wheelchair seat available I had to transfer her, staff sat us in a seat which meant that was a relatively easy thing to do..access was easy no problems at all it was a brilliant performance, and when she became a little noisy half way through the performance staff asked if we needed any help, I think the were released when I said she was making happy noises! We waited till everyone left before taking her out...and one of the performers (a rat) came and thanked us for bringing her, and asked if we had enjoyed the show....was really touched!
I've taken her to a few performances and have to say we are always made to feel welcome, and staff are always happy to help and accommodate us....

I don't go to the theatre regularly perhaps twice a year, but each time I go to the Octagon I am not disappointed. They always have a brilliant cast for each play I've seen, they perform a variety of plays, and the ones I have seen have always been excellent. The Octagon is probably 25-30 years old now and is due to be refurbished it will only make the experience of visiting even better. A superb evening out

I visit this theatre regularly and feel it gives great value for money. The productions are varied with usually excellent casts and very imaginative stage and sets. The pre theatre food is also recommended.
