Welcome to Brilliant Brighton – the name given to the Brighton BID (Business Improvement District).
A BID is a defined geographical area which involves all businesses located within it. Traders join together to fund improvements to their trading environment.
The first Brighton BID was introduced in September 2006 and consisted of around 300 traders all located in the heart of Brighton – parts of the North Laine, North Street and parts of The Lanes.
In April 2011 the BID businesses voted positively to extend the BID area and on the 1st July 2011 the new BID came in to being. It will last for 5 years until 2016 and now encompasses 517 city centre retail and hospitality businesses.
The new BID covers Western Road, Preston Street, North Street, parts of both The Lanes and The North Laine.
Over the next 5 years nearly £1.8m will be invested in Brighton city centre by its traders, for more information on the BID you can look at the business plan. Brilliant Brighton will focus on creating a safer environment for visitors, producing exciting Christmas light displays and dressing the city for summer with hanging baskets and bunting.
Brilliant Brighton is also working with businesses to support trading in other ways by reducing overheads and providing business support. By working in partnership with agencies such as the Police, City Council, the Business Crime Reduction Partnership and transport operators the BID is at the forefront of strategic thinking that will benefit Brighton City Centre for years to come.
An online showcase for BID Members to promote their businesses online, post events and offers as well as a focus for news regarding the various BID projects and activities.

Christmas Lights
The centre of the City will once again be lit up in a brilliant, festive display of lighting across the entire BID Area
With further enhancements to last year, the 2012 scheme will ensure that the BID area can continue to compete with other towns and cities across the South East, making Brighton a must see destination during the all important Christmas trading period.
Dressing the City
For the first time this year, the BID played host to an unrivalled display of bunting, banners and hanging baskets to give the BID area a festival feel throughout the summer months.
More than 1800m of bunting was put in place and hundreds of hanging baskets and banners adorned the City centre from May through to September.
On Street Security
The BID guards are now rebranded as 'City Centre Ambassodors'. They are now out on the streets 7 days a week (including bank holidays) from 10am Monday to Saturday and from 11am to 5pm on Sundays.
Contact the Ambassadors by calling:
07786245106 / 01273 305530
They are there to assist BID members if you've had a theft in store and can also be on hand to help with any antisocial behaviour that you may be facing.
In addition, access to the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) website is free and you can view up-to-the-minute images of known local offenders and utilise their new smartphone app to keep you informed while on the move.
The BID has now reached an agreement with the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association to manage on-street charity collections in Brighton City Centre.
If you would like to make a complaint about Charity Fundraisers, please call the PFRA directly on 0207 401 8452.
