A lot has been made of summer holiday fun for and with the kids lately, but no matter what your stage of life, there is loads on offer locally.

At last - time for yourself
If you are (finally!) lucky enough to be free during the day, why not give bowls a go? It’s a perfect way to get outdoors, keep fit and meet new people. Newhaven Bowling Club lays on a free weekly ‘taster’ every Saturday, led by qualified coach Janet. Another excellent move is to join Brighton and Hove council’s year-round programme of Healthwalks .

Young as you feel
Absolute Bowie is the most convincing tribute to the Starman – ever! Come along to Concorde 2 on Saturday 28th for a set celebrating the 45th anniversary of the launch of the Aladdin Sane album – the first set will be the album played in its entirety, the second will feature Ziggy-era classics like The Jean Genie. Or if you love stomp and bluegrass, you’ll be blown away by the thundering voice and towering talents of John Crampton, who plays Fudgies in Hove on Friday 27th. Thoroughly recommended!

Younger still
Shoreham Star Trail on Saturday 28th is a chance to spot Captain Jack Sparrow, Harry Potter and a selection of Disney princesses in the town centre. And the wonderful world and amazing variety of starfish is celebrated in the new Sea Stars section at Brighton Sea Life Centre this summer, and beyond. Escape the hustle, bustle and heat to chill out in the splendour of this Victorian aquarium, and be dazzled by all things aquatic.

Something completely different
Or, for another alternative view of the world, lift off on British Airways i360 – where you’ll see views across Brighton and Hove and as far as the South Downs. Live at the Sky Bar (Friday evening) features smooth tunes in an iconic setting…

And, if you’re gearing your way up to Pride (3-5 August), come along to Pride Community Day at Preston Park on Sunday 29th, where you will find accessible events like the Pride Dog Show, family entertainment and street food.
