Showcasing new sculpture on the seafront could soon become a reality if the public get behind a fundraising drive to support Hove Plinth.
Hove Civic Society, the charity managing this community project, is launching a sensational crowdfunding campaign in association with Brighton's Big Screen 2016.
The Hove Plinth project has built a strong foundation of support with the public, media and arts and heritage organisations in Brighton & Hove and beyond and has received the Argus Community Star Award for Contribution to Arts and Culture on the grounds of 'capturing the imagination of people in the city'.
Karin Janzon, Project Manager says "We are now asking people to translate all the good will into hard cash to make the Hove Plinth happen. Many of our great Victorian monuments were funded by public subscription - the crowd funding of the times. Let's prove that the same spirit is still around!"
With an enticing range of rewards attached to donations on offer, Hove Civic Society hopes crowdfunding will raise the remaining £35,000 of the £100k needed to build Hove Plinth.
Grants, donations and contributions in kind account for the other £65,000 already raised and the total cost will cover the plinth’s construction, landscaping, technical infrastructure and maintenance.
People will be able to pledge their support online and will be eligible to receive a range of rewards depending on their level of donation. The funds pledged will go to the project at the end of the campaign.
The crowd funding campaign will run
from the 3rd June for 5 weeks until the 10th July

Pierre Diamantopoulo, one of the three winning artists of the 2015 Hove Plinth Sculpture Competition, says about Hove Plinth: "It is a fantastic opportunity for any artist to put a work of art, on a plinth, on the beach, with the sea as a backdrop - Venus de Milo would give her right arm for that."
