Outside or in? Chinos or shorts? The weather seems to be asking too much of us and our wardrobes this last week or so.

If everything goes pear-shaped, and the rain pours down, what to do with the kids – and yourself? If your family is animal-mad, here are a couple of suggestions to amuse them (and, of course, you).
The Red Turtle is animation at its most charming and perfect. Ten years of collaboration between Studio Ghibli and French and Belgian artists have resulted in a heartbreaking, haunting tale. Watercolours without the need for an umbrella at The Old Market in Hove on Tuesday 21st August.
Big messages and thought-provoking animal activity abound in Orwell’s classic Animal Farm, brought to you in a bijou space right in the heart of our city. ‘Some animals are more equal than others – or are they?’ are just some of the questions you’ll be asking each other during this dark tale that works as both fairy tale and allegory. At Brighton Little Theatre from Tuesday 14th to Saturday 18th August.
And, still on the subject of animals… if the clouds do part and the sun comes out, or even if it doesn’t - don’t miss Paws for the Cause dog-show and event at Hove Park on Sunday 19th from 11am to 4pm.
Last chance to see… On a more adult note, the Gilbert and George exhibition at Brighton Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the world of this iconicartistic duo – if you haven’t got there, hurry as it closes on 2nd September 2018. Highly personally recommended in our blog.

The flavours, culture and sheer magic of the Far East arrive in Preston Park this weekend (18th and 19th August) as Brighton Thai Festival brings you chance to experience a Thai massage (only for the brave!) and catch the excitement of Muay Thai Boxing, among other delights.
More outdoor fun, this time for lovers of all things grape, comes to the South Downs in the form of Ridgefest on 25th August 12-8pm. The ticket price includes a welcoming glass of sparkling wine from award-winning producer Ridgeview, entertainment from local bands and tours of the vineyard. Coach transport from Brighton and Burgess Hill stations is available, too, to allow you to experience the vintages more fully!
Come rain or shine – you’ll find plenty to do in Brighton and Hove in the run-up to the late summer Bank Holiday!
