The Brighton and Hove school summer holidays are but a couple of sunsets away and, with them, the chance to spend some (apols for the cliché) ‘quality time’ with the kids. Kick start their summer with a scream as you skitter down the amazing 100-meter water slide at Queen’s Park in Kemp Town on Saturday 21 July. Or get yourselves along to Shoreham town centre on Saturday 28th July for a chance to meet Captain Jack Sparrow, Harry Potter and other stars and superheroes in the Shoreham Star Trail. If you worry about boredom setting in, keep everyone stimulated this week with a visit to Kew Science Festival at Wakehurst Place, to find out about fungi, home in on the secrets life of bees and explore the vast collection of seeds and plants. There is also a chance the following week for creative-minded people to enjoy Wakehurst through The Wonder Project - an interactive experience that explores the grounds through soundscapes. History, too, is never far away from Brighton and Hove – and you’ll be spellbound by the Sussex Dark Side Theatrical Ghost Walks at the fascinating Newhaven Fort. Continuing the theme of slightly spooky Sussex, from 25-28 July, Brighton Open Air Theatre presents Frankenstein Sisatain Dyke Road Park – a reworking of the classic tale that embraces the ideal of perfection and explores gender and transgenderism - which leads us neatly to… Brighton Pride and all things rainbow - coming soon! Finally, if you are planning to avoid the seafront-seeking crowds for a couple of weeks by heading elsewhere on holiday, you’ll find all you need to make sure you get off to a great start and come home to a well-ordered home and happy, healthy pets in Plan your way to a hassle-free holiday. Thanks for reading this brief summery. Catch you next week! Gerry Hussein |
