Brighthelm Church & Community Centre, North Road, was very kindly awarded a £2000 Community First grant to help us work with the local community to create a new mural in the heart of Brighton. We wanted to transform the alleyway at the side into a space that everyone in the community feels part of and the kind of space which reflected what the community would like to see. We received a range of entries of very high calibre.
SoS WON!
SoS was chosen because not only was her design judged “inspiring” and “beautiful”, but her background in inclusive arts and efforts to involve members of marginalised communities in her work really impressed the judges. SoS has been working with a stellar team of volunteers to construct the mural. A group of young adults working with charity Tomorrow’s People, which aims to help young people learn new skills and find work, prepared the wall and laid the base coat.
This your chance to see it! Come along to our official launch party, come and learn all about our mural and see the artwork for yourself!
Refreshments will be available. The event is FREE but we collect donations in the night.
Brighthelm Centre is a community space with meeting and performance rooms for hire, based in the current Brighton city-centre location since 1987.
