Getting out and about after Xmas lunch is an excellent way to clear your head, settle your stomach, work up an appetite for the next round of culinary treats and tire yourself out for a well earned rest in front of the telly!
Taking in the Christmas country air
It snowed on Xmas day a couple of years ago and the Downs were covered in it. So my husband and I went for a walk on the South Downs Way to enjoy the stunning views and crisp air. There were so many people up there, many more than on an average sunny summer afternoon, and everyone was in such a jolly mood. We returned home feeling thoroughly warmed by the Christmas spirit, red-nosed and numb-fingered but ridiculously happy, on a rare and much appreciated social high.
Christmas on the beach
At any other time of year you might as well be invisible. But on Christmas Day the seafront and beachfront are full of friendly folk taking the air, exchanging greetings and stopping to talk. It's well worth wrapping up warm for.
Christmas Day pubbing in Brighton and Hove
The pub is a great destination if you don't have children to take care of on the big day. There isn't a list of pubs open on Christmas day, so op in sometime this week and see if your local is letting revellers in for the afternoon. Pubs are convivial and cosy all year round but the Xmas day ambience is extra special.
Admiring the Christmas lights
Some people really push the boat out at this time of year and their decorative efforts are amazingly creative. Take a tour on foot and see what your local area has to offer in the way of Santas on the roof, vasy blow-up snowmen and enough lights to make them clearly visible from Mars! The town centre itself looks gorgeous, too.
Giving away cash
This time of year is all very well if you have a warm home to return to. Imagine how you'd feel if you were homeless. One of the best ways to experience a huge seasonal feel good factor is to give away money. If you see some poor soul begging in town, hand over your spare cash or folding money for a warm internal glow. You might just make someone's day, or even save a life.
Christmas buses and cabs
There aren't any buses running on Christmas Day but if you find yourself far from home and weary, catch a cab with our favourite taxi firm, Streamline, and you'll be back home in the fragrant Christmassy warmth in no time.
