Just a ten minute walk from the Hanover area and not far from the city centre, I love the King and Queen. The gigantic mock Tudor building is hard to miss, and even on busy nights there’s always a little space inside for a comfortable drink.
This pub caters for everyone. Primarily a ‘sports pub’, showing all major games and sporting events under the sun (God help us when the Olympics come to town...) on a gigantic Sky TV, there’s also a lot on offer for those who are less athletically inclined.
An extensive cocktail list and a ‘2 for £7’ offer make the King and Queen the perfect place to enjoy a few fruity drinks. As a cocktail connoisseur, I know firsthand that it’s difficult to find affordable cocktails in the city that aren’t overeasy on the ice, so enjoy these ones. The beer garden outside is also lovely, with vines and greenery climbing through trestles and an undercover area too.
Now serving an extensive range of pub grub and available for party hire, the King and Queen has it all, and the best bit? Its upstairs ‘game room’, equipped with two table football tables and two pool tables!
With last orders before midnight, this place is a great ‘student start off’ point before a big night ahead, especially on Thursdays, when ‘Student Night’ takes over and drinks are just £1.95. Tuesday is karaoke night, and due to the size of the pub, it’s easy to hide away and listen to performers without feeling the pressure to get up on stage. And with BIM and Brighton running great music courses, you’ll be pleasantly surprised (if not amazed) by the calibre of some performers.
It may look big and scary from the outside, but head along to the King and Queen this week, to have a drink with a crowd of Brightonians as varied as they come.
