We're in the mood for art, music, fun and frolics as the Brighton Festival approaches, with loads to see and do in town as the countdown comes to a close. Here's a generous slice of the finest city entertainment for the coming week.  

Friday 26th April

Attack, Attack! - This is one of the biggest metal bands to come out of the US Midwest for ages, here fresh from Columbus, Ohio. Rock the roof off its supports at 7pm, £9 each at The Haunt

Brighton Hellenic Nights present The George Kypreos Band - If you love original and modern Greek music you'll adore this, strongly influenced by Greek traditional, gypsy and island music and a feast for the ears, evocative of hot summer holidays. From 8:30pm, £8/£6 each at The Latest Music Bar

Saturday 27th April

Green Architecture Day - A series of fascinating illustrated talks about how to self build and custom build green housing, between 9:45am and 5pm at the University of Brighton Gallery & Sallis Benney Theatre on Grand Parade, opposite the King and Queen.  

The Annual Brighton Jukebox & Retro Fair - 3 massive halls packed full of jukeboxes and spare parts, vinyl records, music memorabilia, vintage clothing, retro homewares, shoes, neons, vintage dining furniture, rock n roll and rockabilly fashion, jewellery,Gretsch guitars and loads more this Sunday from 10am-5pm, £7/£3 each at Brighton Racecourse

George Michael & Wham Tribute - Back in the day Wham were the coolest chaps on the planet. And now Pete Valentine, one of Britain's finest George Michael & Wham Tribute Acts, hits the city with his big, authentic George Michael vocal sound. Awesome! On stage live from 10pm for free at the super-smart Grosvenor Casino

Sunday 28th April

Brighton Records & CD Fair - It's that time of year again, with the famous Brighton Record and CD Fair at the Brighton Centre for another year, beloved of music fans and vinyl lovers from far and wide. It's a collector's heaven, the perfect foil for the Racecourse event on Saturday, the day before. From 9.30am - 1:30pm, £1.50 entry. From 1:30pm – 4pm, 50p entry at the Brighton Centre

Monday 29th April

Paul Rose - This fella is widely rated as one of the most unique and talented guitarists in the world. Wow. See what all the fuss is about at 8.30pm, £14 each in advance at the city's popular Latest Music Bar

Tuesday 30th April

The Drawing Circus Presents: Spring Sprawl - Love drawing? Join in the creative fun at the Drawing Circus, a spring themed life drawing session and celebration of a year of splendid artistic events at The Old Market. A themed, drop-in and highly sociable life drawing session for all abilities, all you need to do is bring your own materials, 7pm, a fiver each at The Old Market

Wednesday 1st May

‘End of the Line’ Film Screening & Fish Campaign Discussion - The Food Partnership’s spring member’s event this year focuses on their fish campaign, fascinating stuff complete with veggie canapes and a bar. From 7pm, free entry at The Basement

Thursday 2nd May

Hammer and Tongue - Top class hiphop wordsmithery that's so good The Guardian gave it a rave review. Hammer & Tongue has effectively reinvented the medium for the hip-hop generation and now you can find ouy why.
